He's not a big fan of jigsaws but he loved doing this
I bought this as a present for my husband after a trip to Hong Kong. He's not a big fan of jigsaws but he loved doing this. I'd say this is one of the more complicated ones because of the different levels but you do get your money's worth.

Hong Kong 4D completed at last
I bought this in about September 2012, started it in February 2013 and finished it today (27 November 2013). Obviously I haven't been working on it continuously - it has lived on a shelf under my desk and I've spent the odd 15 minutes on it here and there in my lunch-breaks! To address some of the comments made by other reviewers: all of the parts (pieces and buildings) were present and correct; I had absolutely no problem identifying exactly where each building should go; adding the buildings did not stop the foam from lying flat. On the other hand I would agree that the sticky tape provided was not very sticky but you do get plenty of spare tape and if you are planning to dismantle the puzzle at some point then you wouldn't want it stuck too firmly. If you aren't planning to dismantle it then you can glue it or use better tape. The fact that a large proportion of the map is sea and there is no variation in the shapes of the pieces does make this puzzle particularly challenging. There were plenty of occasions when I thought I had a piece in the right place only later to realise that I had to swap it with another piece but if you persevere it does eventually all look right to the naked eye. I may have spent almost as long on the sea part of the base layer as on the whole of the rest of the puzzle but once you've cracked the base layer the rest is pretty plain sailing. This is the first 4D puzzle I've tried and I suspect that ones that are land only are a lot easier and would perhaps be a better bet to start with. I will certainly be buying more of these puzzles (although I might give myself a few months off first!).Another suggestion is that once I got to the buildings stage I added them at the rate of roughly one year each day which, over the course of a few weeks, gave a real sense of the passage of time and the gradual build up of Hong Kong. Overall I would say; don't be put off by some of the negative comments elsewhere but do be aware that this isn't the sort of puzzle you can finish over a weekend - it is a serious project that you are undertaking, but that makes it all the more satisfying when you complete it!
