Plastic stays enhance treatment of ankle sprains and may be removed after recovery period. Features & Benefits: Plastic stays: enhance proprioceptive protection, especially during acute phase of ankle sprain treatment Stabilizing straps: form figure-eight to protect and support ankle Elastic cuff closure: enhances support from stabilizing straps and secures laces Low profile: will fit in any type of shoe Bilateral design: each size fits left or right foot Ballistic nylon boot: provides tremendous strength and durability US manufacturing: higher quality control standards Each ankle brace is sold separately. Machine wash gentle cycle, no bleach. Air dry. Review: Suggested by physical therapist. Easy to strap up and provides very good support to surgically repaired ankle. Limits range of motion desired amount. Fits inside of shoe fairly well. Review: The podiatrist recommended it, and it works. I don't recommend wearing it if you plan to sit for an extended period of time -- like on a plane, as the plastic can feel as if it is digging into your skin. However, on road trips, hikes, and everyday use, it works like a charm. If, for any reason, you need a brace that isn't bespoke for you -- this one will do.

To my surprise, I was able to use my regular shoes while wearing these. I thought I would have a problem because it has so many different layers of straps. It fits snuggly in the shoe but doesn't require an upgrade of the size. Since it doesn't cover the toes, it doesn't add to the length of your foot. When inserting your foot into the shoe, there are a couple extra thick areas that like to snag on the shoe so using a shoe horn is essential. I wear these because I have nerve damage and cannot feel my feet and I've previously twisted my ankles several times. Saved my ankles already by having a couple close calls. If I didn't have these on, I might have broken the ankle. I need to put them on very tightly to prevent my ankle from moving. Because it's so tight, it seems to inhibit proper blood flow to my feet. I can feel my heart beating in my toes at times. When I finally take them off, I have impressions on my legs where it's clear that I was wearing something tight on them and my feet are cold. These also seem to prevent my ankle from moving up and down as well as sideways. It's not 100% immobile so it's still possible to drive my car while wearing these but it takes a little practice pressing the gas and brake pedals and then you eventually get used to them.

I rolled both ankles in different years of high school playing basketball. I have always had problems with my ankles since then and now am 60 years old. Recently rolled both ankles again within a month of each other. I have done physical therapies throughout my life for my ankles, but due to the severity of the damage done to my ligaments I have periodically rolled my ankles. I work outdoors, so uneven ground is quite common along with ankle sprains. My frustration led to this purchase. I feel the additional support these braces give me is wonderful. I feel much more confident walking and moving around out of doors. These stabilizers feel more secure than wrapping and comparable to taping my ankles. I don't know if these braces will prevent future injuries, but they feel like they will help lessen the damage and recovery time with the support they give.
