Mark Rothko: Paintings on Paper

I am very impressed with the quailty of the reproductions in this book. The selection of the paper and inks used produces a finish with just a slight sheen that inhances the sense of depth in the paintings. The color reproduction is impressive. Rothko often built up dark values with thin layers of paint, and then added an additional layer in another color with a slightly different color and value, and the printing in this book captures that effect very clearly. I know from my work with digital images that controlling the color in an image when the values are very close but different in hue and one overlaid on another so in effect they produce a third mixed color can be very difficult, so hat's off to whoever is reponsible for the printing for this book, a great job.
