Really lovely book
My autistic 11 year old daughter loves all things Japan. This book is proving extremley popular. She’s enjoying it. It’s easy to learn style, a pciture with the word written in Japanese and also in English helps you to associate the word with the illustration and makes it easier to remember. A lovely book, beautifully and thoughtfully done.

Great to learn your 1st 1000 words
Recommend by a native tongue tutor to help pass proficiency exams :) Helps to create context when learning the grammar it it were etc and contrast between kanji and kana terms

Excellent book for the intermediate learner.
The book assumes that you already have a clear understanding of Hilagana and Katakana, and there is no Romaji. This was an excellent book for me as I already have my Kana down pretty well, but this is not ideal for the absolute beginner. Unless you thoroughly know your Hilagana and Katakana, this will be a struggle for you. I have removed one star because this book did not come woth an audio CD, and whilst I can still read the words in this book I don't know thier actual pitch. Also, the packaging was pretty poor and the book arrived bent. Be mindful when buying books from Amazon or from other companies through amazon.

Great book
As I'm starting to learn Japanese I found this book very useful for labelling everyday items and it also includes animals, colours, numbers and shapes which was an added bonus for me. This product is also very cute but can be confusing what the picture is showing sometimes but can be cleared up with a quick dictionary search.

Useful range of words for beginners
Good as an alternative to flash cards for beginners who want to increase their vocabulary. The English translations are compiled into a word list at the back of the book for reference.

Missing the kanji is terribly unforgivable as only incomplete knowledge is provided.

Great book for getting some vocabulary. While it has the hirigana readings of the words (and romaji), or would also be nice to have the kanji, where appropriate. Basically, I’m looking for an edition for older readers that can help me not just learn how to hear/speak the words, but also how to read them. Given that that is not the intended audience, however, I won’t hold it against this book. Also, it could be a fun learning exercise to fill out the kanji.

Really helpful book for learning Japanese vocabulary. The illustrations make it much easier to remember words, and seeing everything in context helps it stick better than traditional lists. It’s especially good for beginners and makes studying feel more fun and less overwhelming. A great learning tool to build a solid foundation.
