Worked on 2009 GMC Canyon

I did some research online as to why my "check engine light" went on. It said one possibility was that I had a crack in my gas cap and some vapors were passing. I checked my gas cap and found a hairline crack. I bought this and sure enough it fixed it! YAHOO

A little stiff getting on the first time, but OK from then on. No more check engine light.

In order to get the attaching pin to stay in its hole in the gas door I had to take a sharp knife and pry out the two locking barbs almost perpendicular to the pin and push in the hole with a great deal of pressure while trying hard not to damage the door. If you dont do this the barbs will not protrude out enough to catch the back side of the hole opening. Also to get the cap to lock you have to use a lot of inward pressure on it while turning to compress the gasket enough for the cap to take hold. I am hoping this gets better as the gasket softens

Initially I've ordered a third party gas tank cap which I had to return. It went on fine but trying to remove it was impossible without a tool. This OE gas cap had zero problem. I'll stick to OE parts.

The cap seems to tighten the way it should, but the tether has an end piece that is too small to fit the hole where it should attach. Therefore, it comes out and does not anchor the cap.
