This Is Exactly What I Have Been Looking For
I first started listening to Tupac when I was in 5th grade. My father worked as a janitor at a library and he would always bring home CDs from work. Tupac was one of the many artists he listened to.In 5th grade, I fell in love with Tupac's music. I still remember my mother and my sister coming home and surprising me with a t-shirt they got me. The t-shirt was black with a picture of Tupac on the front, with a cigarette in his mouth and a gun on his waist. The shirt was way too big (lol it looked more like a dress than a t-shirt at the time) but I wore it anyway, because I loved Tupac. I remember my friend's mother asking me "why are you wearing that shirt?". She thought that it was a little too mature for a 5th grader to be wearing at the time. Admittedly it was, but my mother understood that Tupac to me wasn't just about guns and violence, but he was a role model to me and a positive influence. He influenced me to stand up for what I believe in and to fight for what is right and to not be afraid to speak my mind.I was born in 1994. Tupac died when I was 2 years old, but by some miracle I still remember to this day, the day that he passed away. I remember being in a van with my 2 older cousins who were around 13-14 at the time and my big sister who is 2 years older than me and the radio was playing. All of a sudden a voice cut through and broke the news that Tupac Shakur had passed away. The whole car went completely silent and my cousin's both froze and just sat there in shock. I didn't know what was going on so I asked what happened and they said "Tupac died" and I said "tooth-pock" and they all started laughing and corrected me saying "No, it's Tupac".I wrote an essay about Tupac when I was in 5th grade. I remember working so hard on it because I was so passionate about it. I received an A or an A+ on that essay. It was so well put together that somebody ended up stealing it out of my house. It was beautiful. It had pictures of Tupac in it and everything.Ever since then I have been trying to get as much information on Tupac as I possibly could. Periodically throughout my life, I would comb through the internet looking for new information, but not really finding much outside of the information I already knew. This book is exactly what I have been looking for all these years. I wanted more information about who Tupac was as a person outside of the music and entertainment. More information on who Tupac was as a person, behind the scenes on a regular everyday basis and this book hit the nail on the head. I am so thankful that I had a chance to listen to this audiobook.Yesterday I bought tickets to the Les Miserables Broadway play so that I can understand what Tupac got from it. I love Tupac. Thank you for releasing this book.I would say "rest in peace", but I have always wondered if Tupac really died on Sept 13, 1996 at 4:03 PM or if he pulled a Makaveli on us.

You think you know who Tupac was? Perhaps not.
You may be surprised what you learn about the heart and soul of this man in the pages of this book. Staci Robinson had an up close and personal relationship with not only him but many people in his orbit, clear on the pages of this fascinating biography. She interviews other high profile industry rap artists and related others of the time as well, but most importantly, had the trust of his immediate family to bring his story to life.Tupac was clearly not a saint and made some errors in judgment but is probably one of the most misunderstood high profile people ever. A highly intelligent, well meaning creative genius with an unmatched work ethic, I found it hard to put this book down as I followed the twists and turns of his tragically short life, as he pursued his music, acting career, support of black people in attempts to spread a message of of unity and color blindness to all.He was ahead of his time in many ways, clearly influenced by his also highly intelligent and driven Black Panther mother, Afeni Shakur (a fascinating person in her own rite).I finished this book thinking, "This man was way too smart and deep for this world." And wondering what more he would have accomplished had his life not been cut short.

Enlightening.
I wasn't always the biggest Tupac supporter. However, I've now switched sides after reading his story. I learned so much and more about not only him as a musician but him as human being. It was a must that I took notes (front and back).

Tupac deserved a truly COMPREHENSIVE, DEFINITIVE Biography.
OH. MY. GAWWWWWWWWD. I thought I loved Tupac before but now I realized there was SO MUCH MORE THAT I DIDN'T KNOW - SO MUCH MORE TO LOVE! I definitely recommend this Biography whether you know much about Tupac or not, whether you like him or love him or even if you hate him. Because if you hate him, you have misunderstood one of the greats. Read it!

A solid Tupac bio that is different from the usual
Staci Robinson’s biography of the dearly departed, yet ever-present hip-hop icon, Tupac Shakur, peels back layers and gives a fresh take on his story.I’ve been a Tupac fan for much of life and I’ve read countless books about him, I watched most of the interviews and documentaries so I went into this book a bit skeptical at first. I mean what more can you say about one of the most talked-about figures in pop culture of the past 30 years. What I particularly appreciated was how much detail Robinson went into with talking about Pac’s family and his childhood, particularly his years growing up in New York, where he spent the first 14 years of his life.I also loved how the author highlighted the influence of some of the unsung heroes in Pac’s life that we don’t often hear about; people like Atron Gregory (and early manager), Watani Tyehimba (manager/mentor), Gloria “Aunt Glo” Cox (his aunt), Mutulu Shakur (stepfather/mentor), Leila Steinberg (a Bay area mentor), and countless others. The only thing that bothered me is how it felt like the book started to go by quicker toward the end and the inevitable end feels abrupt, ironically similar to Pacs own premature demise.Overall, this is easily one of the best biographies about Tupac out there. Truly, i think what made it different from every other Tupac book is 1) Good research, and, 2) it was built largely off of interviews with Pac’s family, his aunt, his cousins, and course, his late mother, Afeni Shakur. If you’re a Pac fan, you’ll want to add this to your collection.
