As I learn more about it I will be able to understand more about it's application. I have a new found interest in gems found in the rough and I am hoping this will aid in identifying and understanding what I am seeing.

Does what it is supposed to do.
Much smaller than I thought it would be, but that makes it more portable. I have never used one before, but it seems to work just fine. I used four stars because I have nothing to compare it to so really don't know if there is anything better out there and I can see the colors from different gems in the square boxes.

Don't buy these! A useful instrument but poor design. Get one elsewhere.
While this MAY work for gems that are strongly dichroic the viewing windows are too small to see clearly the different colors that this instrument is intended to show. I have a different brand that I purchased many years ago that is FAR more useful. (Unfortunately I don't know what brand it is to recommend it.) These are so hard to use that they are almost useless in the real world for gems that are not EXTREMELY strongly dichroic. I recommend you spend more money on a different brand and have a far better chance of success.Sorry to write a non favorable review but I won't be using the ones I bought and will have to look elsewhere for better ones.
