Simple to use, well-built, and fast; BUT, inconsistent quality.
UPDATE 29 Dec 15Sad to report that the electronics in the kettle failed two days ago. Fortunately for me it happened so soon that Amazon issued a full refund when I shipped it back. New rating is the average of a perfectly good one and a totally dead one.UPDATE 17 Dec 15New one arrived today and tested perfect. No leaks. Connections work well. So far, so good.UPDATE 12 Dec 15After nearly two years of use my kettle finally failed without warning. We had a visitor who didn’t realize it was an electric kettle and put it on my gas stove. By the time we smelled the melting plastic, it was too late. So if you plan to use this electric kettle on the stove or in a campfire, look elsewhere. ;-)That aside, I’d like to mention that we have owned 4 kettles over the past few years and this is the only one to last more than 12 months; so, lasting at least 2 years was a very pleasant surprise. I suspect it would have worked for almost another year considering the connection issues were just beginning to crop up when my friend melted the bottom. All of the other kettles failed at the connection from the base to the kettle. In addition, one leaked all over the countertop when it arrived and was replaced free by the manufacturer, but the replacement stopped connecting within 8 months. The interesting thing is that most of the kettle reviews I’ve looked at have two things in common: average reviews go down over time since most of them work well in the beginning; and, it seems to be a crap shoot whether you get one that will last 6 months or 3 years. If you want it repaired, it appears you’ll pay about ½ the cost of a new one. Maybe insurance is the answer.Good luck in your search. I’m going to throw the dice and get another one of these, hoping I get another good one. I really have enjoyed the features and longevity. Blowing on the dice now...-----------Frigidaire’s implementation of the automatic water kettle is great. It is simpler than some yet still provides most of the bells and whistles of the more complex.I like the five, pre-programmed temps available right on the top of the handle. I don’t like that the lowest temp setting is 175°F. I like hot chocolate that I can drink right after it’s made, but at 175° I must wait. My Bonavita kettle has a minimum of 140° and 1° increments so an immediately drinkable cup of instant chocolate is quite possible. I seriously doubt that one-degree temperature increments are truly necessary, but my Bonavita provides that feature (in addition to several presets), whereas this Frigidaire is restricted to five presets for simplicity. The Frigidaire works very well, heats water fast and accurately, and has a light in the large water-level indicator to make it easier to see. But in addition, the light changes color as the water heats so you can tell from across the room how the heating has progressed. This has turned out to be much more than a swoopy-looking feature that I really appreciate. The Frigidaire kettle is heavier than the Bonavita, but construction appears to be about equal between the two. Both have a small plastic device inside the kettle near the spout to smooth pouring. The kettle is cordless for ease of pouring but it is not battery operated. It makes connection to the requisite 1500 Watts of power through the base. Once lifted from the base the connection is severed, which is common to all kettles of this type. Set it back down on the base and it can hold the temp with the touch of a button so you can have a second or third cup without waiting for it to reheat.I dislike the way electrical connections are made between the base and the kettle in all of these type of kettles, but at least this one has controls on the kettle so only two connectors are required (to provide the power). I have yet to experience the slow-heating issues I’ve encountered with the Bonavita and its ilk (with controls on the base and multiple connectors for temperature sensing, power, and who knows what), but only time will tell if the Frigidaire connectors will hold up.I’ll update if I experience any problems, but so far this is a great kettle that I highly recommend if a minimum temp of 175° is low enough for you. It’s simple to use, well-built, and fast.

Gem of a Variable Temperature Kettle!
I've been using this kettle for three weeks and I love it! I recently joined the Teavana cult and quickly realized that heating & reheating water in the microwave while measuring the water temperature using a candy thermometer was for the birds... After researching variable temperature electric water kettles for two weeks, I managed to narrow my selection down and pulled the trigger on this gem. It heats perfectly and is very easy to use. I didn’t experience any chemical tastes as some other reviewers stated. I love having the keep warm option and that the kettle remembers the last temperature setting I used, even after I unplug the kettle. My only complaint was with the Amazon Fulfillment Center’s handling of shipping this item. They slapped a shipping label on the manufacturer’s box and mailed it… Not cool and not how I expect to receive my packages as an Amazon Prime Member. No protection of the product or my privacy. My item wasn’t damaged, but that doesn’t excuse Amazon from using common sense shipping practices. Anyway, this Frigidaire kettle has taken my love of tea and the brewing experience to another level!

Item received in perfect condition. Very nice unit with precise control of water temperature and handsome look. Seems to be well construction and worked just fine with an initial test. Reached required temperature in just a few minutes. Temperature checked with a precision thermometer shows indicated temperature is right on. Will have to see if long term operation is good. Failure of this type of unit usually occurs by failure of the contact between the main unit and the power supply base unit, either through contact fatigue or corrosion of the conductors. This unit seems to have good contact and seems to be very well engineered. Time will tell.

Junk. Stopped working in 2 months.
This review has been edited. I leave the original for those who have read this review already.Updated version:Avoid this product. Other reviewers have explained the same malfunction that I am experiencing.Dec 11, 2014: I tried to make tea. Device doesn't turn on. When I press the power button, the device turns itself off, then beeps repeatedly. I wiggle the pot, press the power button again, and the same result happens. I rotate the base, wiggle some more. It starts warming up, then 2 seconds later, shuts off and beeps. The display sometimes shows "---" and sometimes shows "--|-|" I haven't been able to find the error code.Original purchase date: Sep 27, 2014. Of course it's out of warranty when it breaks.Original:What an excellent water heater. I find it performs better than the Breville in speed and function. Higher price is worth it. I would buy this unit again.-1 star for the plastic lid, which could use some improvements. After filling with water, when I press the lid down to close, the plastic clip/clasp that locks the lid in place doesn't always catch. If I open the lid after recent use, the condensation that's accumulated on the lid flings back. If the water is still hot, it may not feel pleasant; this happens frequently.Other observations: The large capacity will satisfy a family of tea drinkers in one boil. I don't need the keep warm feature because the unit heats water so quickly. The exterior gets hot, because... metal conducts. You wouldn't touch the side of a tea kettle on the stove; I don't expect differently here.

Great Kettle
I've had this kettle for over 1 year and have had no major issues. It doesn't heat to the exact temperature but that doesn't bother me. I use it at least 2-4 times per day and have had no problemsI like that I can adjust the temp for the different teas that I drink. It heats water quickly and keeps the remaining water hot.I don't like that it is difficult to get all of the water out. This makes me nervous when I go away for fear that some bacteria may develop, but I've had no issues to this point.

Well functioning multi temperature kettle
I previously had 2 Cuisinart programmable temperature control kettles and wanted one that wasn't Cuisinart (worst customer service ever for a defective product) but had some of the same features. The variable temperature choices suit my needs and work well. The construction appears to be good and it's esthetic is nice (I've only had mine a couple of months) and I'm overall very satisfied. I don't mind that the temperature select button needs to be pushed several times to get the desired temperature, and the handle is less busy with fewer buttons than the Cuisinart. I also like how the lid works... Press the middle to open, press the black edge to close. It's a little lighter than the Cuisinart. So far so good.I would like the boiling point to last longer in order to get a good rolling boil (it's a tea thing!) The keep warm function works differently than the Cuisinart in that with the Frigidaire model, if you miss pouring at the desired temperature, than it will keep it warm for about 30 minutes until you remove it from the base. However, I preferred the keep warm function to keep the contents warm for 30 minutes no matter how many times it's removed from the base. If you didn't previously have a kettle that this feature functioned in this way, you may not care or notice.I'm generally satisfied and would recommend for good value for the price!

Nice Kettle!
I bought this kettle when it was on sale on amazon.ca. It has very good quality. I love the indicator of colour lights while boiling the water. We have been using it almost two years now and no issues at all. It is one of my best purchases on amazon.

Beautiful, durable and aesthetically pleasing kettle
Arrived 1 day earlier than anticipated - thanks Amazon!Beautiful, durable and aesthetically pleasing kettle.I love the temperature options and the beep it makes to alert you when your water is done boiling + when it's being place on the base. It's really not loud at all. And overall, you hardly notice the water is boiling. Perfect for those who want a kettle that doesn't produce alot of noise. The "Keep Warm" setting is convenient and ensures your water is warm for 30 minutes.Last but not least (and this might sound lame) but it's fun watching my water boil...The kettle boils water through a sequence of colourful lights!Props, to Frigidaire 👍 💯

Great Kettle!
I work in an office that consumes A LOT of tea, and this kettle is perfect! The "keep warm" and temperature settings are great. It's a nice bonus that it has the recommended temperatures for each type of tea. I first bought this kettle nearly four years ago, and just recently replaced it with the same model. The connector started to wear on the base, but keep in mind that the kettle was being used constantly. In a household setting, I could see this kettle lasting quite a long time.

This is the second one i buy,had my first for over 5 years and bought this one cause my wife told me ours was broken, but it was just not sitting right on the base for some reason.I kept the new one for the house and the old one for the camper. This kettle is a very great product and would recommend to anyone who wants to buy something that will last for years to come.
