The Victorian House Book: A Practical Guide to Home Repair and Decoration Hardcover – 12 Dec. 2007

According to the notes on the dust jacket this book "provides owners and admirers of Victorian houses with the most comprehensive source book and guide to home repair and decoration available today" - this is an exaggeration.The book tries to be comprehensive in that it includes history, exterior features, interior decoration, information on alterations and technical advice but the problem is that in doing so it is trying to cover too much in one book. The end result is that a lot of subjects are covered in insufficient depth. The author was an interior decorator and maybe he should have just stuck to his field of expertise - some of the technical advice is questionable and what he says about dry rot is plain wrong!However despite not being perfect it is still a worthwhile read for the Victorian house owner.

I absolutely love this book. Great pictures and drawings with fantastic details. We use it a lot to refurnish our property.

A stunning (and huge) book full of glossy pictures and practical advice. The high price tag almost put me off, but it's worth it.

Another present to daughter & her husband, who have just acquired such a house. Beautifully & lavishly illustrated (including some American "Victorian" equivalents), with a fair mixture of ideas, suggestions & practical nitty-gritty. The next best thing to actually employing a conservation architect?

Looks OK, only flicked through the pages. Mix of pictures of Victorian rooms and practical tips. Purchased for my daughter who is just buying her first house, Victorian terrace. So hoping this will give her some ideas on decor etc.

This book arrived promptly and is a beautiful book well illustrated and lots of helpful ideas unfortunately page 116 is printed badly and the words are blurd into each other. This is obviously a printing error and not damaged in transit.

I am renovating a little old Victorian House so sent for this book to keep me on the right track. I am enjoying it and it's giving me ideas
