This book covers just about every thing in the entire golden state. For example, it gave me information on fishing off the Pacifica pier , and also fishing from a boat in Lake Nacimiento . So basically it covers everything from small streams to the ocean. Because I am a surf fisherman, I would love to have a little bit more info on fishing off the beach , but compared to many books at least there is some info on that. Love this book. It’s easy to read and useful.

I was really "blown away" by the amount of detailed helpful information in this book. This book is as comprehensive as one can hope for in a single book. I'm planning a fishing trip to CA to introduce my grandson, who lives there, to fishing. I started by using the web and contacting guides - but they are all very helpful but have an economic agenda. This book gave me a broad, but detailed overview of where might be good places to go based on how I like to fish and what I like to fish for. Invaluable. There's still something to be said for a single well written guidebook as opposed to going through hundreds of web pages. I wish there was a book just like this for Florida and New England. I am inspired to write one - but I'd rather be fishing.

Bought because I liked my Moon Hiking book. This Moon Calif. fishing is a great resource, especially if you are fishing unknown waters or species. A bonus is the gear recommendations for a starting point. I can see this saving money due to the high cost of tackle, though I have only tried a couple of their combos thus far. It did get me in the ballpark sooner than I would have on my own. It also helps me select new spots I would have never have gone to, and weed out spots that don't fit my style, boat or equipment. Book totally worth the money to me. I will try the Washington edition next because of this.

Despite not being revised in too long a time, the book is still a decent reference concerning various fishing spots around the state.

I purchased this book as a birthday gift for my father in law who loves to fish. He was so excited to get it as he loves to sit and read especially on his favorite topic. He has since told me that the book is very accurate and he was able to learn of a few more fishing spots in our area.

Every California angler must have this book in their collection. The author does a good job in covering the state's fishing spots. There is so much good information in here, even for an experienced fisherman such as myself there is much I learned. Highly recommended!

i love his california camping book. i feel bad reviewing this one lower because he's obviously very passionate about it. there's a lot more personal context in this one - friends he fished with, etc. - that detract from the meat.also - i bought this because i wanted to do more fly fishing. the emphasis is more on lake boat fishing. maybe that's just all there is to do here.

An excellent book with information about nearly every fishing spots all over California from the coast to the inland lakes and waterways. It includes what species of fish is caught in various locations, tip on how fish for them and lots of other very useful information.
