Fodor's Essential Norway (Full-color Travel Guide)

This book was very useful on our recent trip. I highly recommend it.

Has info about main cities but does not give info about every city you may want to visit

I would definitely get Fordor’s for the country you’re visiting. Great advice and information. I would add Rick Steve’s books also.

I've been using Fodor's Guides for over 30 years and am never disappointed. This little book on Norway is no exception. It has a lot of very useful information packed in it, as well as a little tear-out map. Both the book and the map are essentials to bring on vacation.I was very surprised to see that the writeup on the Viking Ship Museum, one of Oslo's Major attractions, made no mention of the fact that it is, in fact, closed until 2026 for renovations. This underscores the need to double check everything on the internet before making firm plans.

I was visiting a few places along West Norway and thought this would give me some information on each location. It just barely meets that criteria. The information is so broad you can't even really create an itinerary. For example, the may list the attractions in the area, but no input on whether they're worth the time/cost. Think of it more like an encyclopedia - a decent list, but no recommendations. I was also disappointed that there's no itineraries or walking guides. Searching on Google is way better. Or get a Rick Steves book.

I bought this book assuming I’d get more info then what’s easily on line. Well, not so. No local I honor any help. Disappointed.

I have bought five Fodor essential guides in the past year. This one on Norway is by far the worst. I’m not sure what happened but it is a thin volume (much thinner than other four) at a hefty price. I wanted it for two particular points of info: northern lights chasing and winter tourism. Hardly anything. I mean literally.I guess I’ll return it.

Being Fodor's I expected a little more but it is just the essentials as the book title states. Again, Fodor's has such a good reputation that I wanted just a little more on some of the surrounding towns.
