We bought these to use in mineral identification when rock hounding. We're not experts, just hobbyists out kicking around in the dirt. So far, they have helped us to verify common opal, calcite, and fossils in our collections. They're really fun. They're bright enough in a completely dark room but can't really compete against full sunlight. If I wanted to use them outdoors it would have to wait for nightfall.

I haven’t yet used these for their intended use (looking for yooperlites on the Lake Superior shoreline), but they’re much smaller than I expected! They use a AA battery (included, awesome), but they’re only slightly bigger than the battery used. Maybe three inches long, half an inch wide. Probably me just misreading the description, but I was very surprised when the box of four flashlights could fit in a small pocket.

It uses 1 aa battery so that’s nice

This is small, about the size of jalapeño pepper. But they pack in the power. Definitely best for low light with only 1 led, it really lights up fluorescent rocks, fossils, and stains. Very impressed with the value and I’ll be ordering 4 more!
