Good reference for a beginner
Very clear and easy to read, this book is a good reference for a budding tortoise keeper. After reading this book and gaining a general understanding of the considerations which need to be made when planning to adopt a tortoise, I felt ready to go deeper into the details of caring for tortoise health and wellbeing.Tortoises have a lot of specific requirements for a happy healthy life. One UK charity said 90% of the tortoises surrendered to them arrive with health problems caused directly by inadequate care from their previous homes.Use this book as your start point and read on from there. Enjoy!

Tortoise - Pet expert
Good value, very informative book on how to properly look after your pet tortoise. Nice pictures and plenty of information. There are dedicated sections on particular breeds of tortoises.

Good book for newbie Tortoise owner
Good informative little book. Ideal for a newbie tortoise owner such as myself. Clear points which give you an idea of what to expect from your new addition. Showed this book to the breeder I had Harriet from and she said it was good but had not heard of the author. Books are good as long as they have the correct information in them, does not compare with experience so always consult with an expert if not sure.

Not a very useful book
There are nice photos of tortoises themselves, but none pertaining to habitat, anatomy, equipment etc. If it were in a larger format it might make a nice coffee table book. There is very little detailed information, most of it concerning British import regulations. Dietary, lighting, and humidity requirements are all pretty vague. Physiology is limited to an overview of common diseases. Tortoises are described as being 'sensitive' without any detail of sensory organs or metabolic processes. The publisher should have asked for some of the author's specific expertise and insight. As it is, this book might as well have been compiled by someone with no actual experience with tortoises.
