Unmuffled my MiM
I have a Mexican made 50’s P Bass, pretty much faultless for a P but the stock pickup though not at all bad was just slightly unrefined for my tastes. There was just a hint of distortion on the low notes yadda yadda, my main bass is a Stingray and I also have a Rick both of which have pretty focused clean sounds and my aim was to get the P slightly closer to that. Yep, this pickup did it. Still sounds totally like a P, which is handy as that’s what I wanted but really cleans up the fuzz keeping the fundamental tone. Was going to spend big on a ‘boutique’ brand but I’m glad I tried this first. Solved my problem totally.Mine did come with ‘Seymour Duncan’ branded pickup covers, although a tight fit I slotted the pickups into my own cream coloured covers. In other news, the fact this works after my sloppy ham fisted shaking attempts at soldering leads me to believe fitting it is fool proof. I’m really bad with a soldering iron. Really bad.

this pickup has made an average 73 Precision sound great again.
Replaced an original 73 Precision pickup (that had somehow demagnetised) with the Seymour Duncan SPB 1. I have only used it in the studio and not live but i am very impressed so far. the sound is much cleaner but not sterile, with balanced all round warmth. this pickup has made an average 73 Precision sound great again.

... with to beef up the sound - its a fine budget/ student bass to play
Used this to replace the P bass pickup in an old Tanglewood Rebel bass I teach with to beef up the sound - its a fine budget/ student bass to play, and this pu really made a big difference in a way I liked., and those who hear it agree. Easy to fit, may need a bit of extra packing underneath depending how deep the body is cut to take them. Follow the instructions to wire it up, it's all easy. I'd have no hesitation in using it or any of their other pickups on anything else, this was the first Seymour Duncan I've bought ... so I have this J-Bass sitting here.... hmmm

an improvement over 06 Fender American Series pickups
SPB-1 pickups by Seymour Duncan are allegedly a faithful reproduction of Leo Fender's original precision bass pickup made in 1957. Easy to install and decent build quality, these are an albeit subtle but distinct improvement on the pups that came with my 06 Fender American Series Precision Bass, which could sound a bit muffled and boomy in the low end frequencies and metallic in the uppper ones. With D'Addario Chromes (flatwound 45-105), comparing the tone to my original pups, the SPB-1's have more 'body', good clear bass without being woolly or booming like the Fenders, and with a noticeable improvement in clarity and definition across the frequency range without being tinny at higher frequencies. I've given 4 stars only because there wasn't the huge difference I'd anticipated based on other people's reports and youtube clips I'd listened to, not because I'm finding fault with the pickups themselves. I may just have to experiment a little more with some new EQ settings to get what I want. But I suspect that most decent quality pickup swaps on P basses generally yield mostly subtle rather than profound differences to the ear. Either way, the SPB-1 pickups are made to a high standard, sound good with no hum or buzzing when installed properly, and are priced and packaged well with nice, clear instructions and self-adhesive backing foams and screws supplied. In my opinion, they represent better value for money than Fender's range, without any compromise on quality. There seems to be some confusion on whether they are supplied with pickup covers with the SD logo on them. Some seem to be supplied with the white 'Seymour Duncan' logo printed on the lower cover, yet both the SD and Amazon websites say they come with non-logo covers. Mine came with the non-logo covers thankfully, meaning I can keep the original look of the bass. Not an issue for some folks, but in any case, apparently the original Fender covers fit for anyone else who has a preference.I've also read about some people complaining about the supplied chrome screws being the wrong size. Whilst the screw heads can seem to catch the pickup cover edges at times, as long as the screw is aligned perpedicular to the body you only need to wiggle the cover a little bit and the screw will seat properly and snugly. So the screw head sizes are fine and definitely not a quality control issue as mentioned by others. If you seat the screw in the cover before fitting the cover this really isn't any issue.Good luck and enjoy your bass.

Good sounding pickups. Have got these fitted to both my Fender MIM bass guitars. Worthwhile upgrade from the standard pickups.

Spb1's are the best
These pickups made a massive difference. Don't hesitate they are brilliant. I previously had Bill Lawrence p46 and mum vintage stock pickups but these Seymour Duncan's are a cut above. They really are fantastic pickups

Great all around P-bass pickup
With so many aftermarket pickup options its overwhelming and difficult to make the right choice. IMO these are a great starting point, very affordable and super solid tone. They have the quintessential P bass sound, warm, punchy, articulate and very even across the neck. I replaced the v-mods than come standard in Fenders American Professional series with SPB-1's, and there was an immediate huge difference. Because these are not necessarily tonally colored one way or the other (like many $ boutique brands can be), but stay true to a great classic P sound, they work for nearly any genre...from classic country to heavy rock. If your wanting to try new pickups for a P bass, start with the SPB-1's.

OTTIMA SODDISFAZIONE
