scholar's dream, fantastic model kit - detective famous agency, not so much
I purchased the scholar's dream specifically because it was one of the more complex and detailed kits I found. Initially it caught my eye because I am a bibliophile in the extreme. The book nook scene is just the bees knees. It's dark, and cluttered, and cramped, and everything I want in a floor to ceiling library of my own.Total time was about 20-30 hours, in 2-3 hr time blocks spread across 10 days. I didn't have any modeling glue, and I was too impatient to wait for it to arrive, so I used Elmer's wood glue, which meant lots of waiting time to let the glue dry. That said, I'm actually glad of that as the slow drying glue let me change my mind a few times and alter how I was arranging things. I deviated from the instructions with decorating the interior, adding my own custom details, and also using up all the "extra" parts provided with the kit. Thus making it even more cluttered =DIt's a very wise point for the instructions to have you start by making all the books first. Easily the most tedious and time consuming part of the entire process. If you can't get past that part, it's definitely the "do note proceed" check. I also highly recommend a magnifying lamp on an articulated arm for those of us who's eye's are no longer young, and those of us who are young and want to keep our eyes!overall 10/10 highly recommend. thoroughly enjoyed the assembly as well as the final result of this kit.as many have noted, this is NOT a kit for children. do not mistake this as a "toy" it's not. It requires a fair amount of patience, a liberal amount of schematic comprehension, and the ability to extract detailed 3D steps from 2D images, a process I have only recently discovered is very difficult for the newest generations with their 3D media everywhere. My nephew did not understand that the 2D representation of a goomba in Super Mario was the same creature as the 3D represented goomba in Super Mario Odyssey, even after I printed out the 3D model, and drew a 2D model. Fascinating stuff the development of the human brain.update:I enjoyed the scholar's dream kit so much that i purchased the detective famous agency one next. while it's lovely once assembled, and i don't regret buying it, it is definitely not as good a kit as the scholar's dream. the wood for the DFA is laminated with a millimeter or so of actual wood sheeting, which splinters terribly when you try to remove it from the boards even using an exacto knife to cut the holding tabs first. similarly because the laminated wood is so thin and weak many of the thin pieces are prone to breaking. i had to repair over a dozen pieces that ended up having small details break off over the course of the assembly. the assembly depends very heavily on structural pieces to be held in place with nothing but glue, this was especially difficult for pieces like the cathedral rib vaulted ceiling pieces because the overall assembly had had a slight skew to all of the pieces so that once the final wall went on, absolutely nothing was square, and the ribs just rest on top of the side walls, so there was no physical means to sort of force everything plumb with tab inserts first. this meant that i repeatedly ended up having to use clamps to hold the deformed walls in place while the glue dried. finally, the motion sensor is hilariously too sensitive. it picks up light changes from the tv 20 feet away, i'm pretty sure i've just been sitting nearby and blinked and it's picked up the movement from my eyelids o.O this sensitivity means that it burns through batteries very fast, the first set of 2 AA batteries died after only 24hrs. i recommend making a little tab or something to place in front of the sensor when you don't want it randomly turning on, to save on battery life. by comparison, the scholar's dream uses 2 AAA batteries, has an on off switch, and i leave it running ~12hrs a day, and it will run on those two AAA batteries for three or four days like that.because it was burning through batteries so quickly, i replaced the batteries with a Lenink AC Power Supply Adapter.

Amazing product
The media could not be loaded. I have put quite a few miniatures and book nooks together and these directions are quite clear and easy to follow compared to others I have built. This doesn't come with a dust cover but if you message the company they will send you one for free really quickly and their response time is usualy less than 24 hrs. This book nook turns out beautifully! I am thrilled with this product and the customer service. Top notch. To often people just leave comments trying to complain and don't try to reach out to speak with the company about problems, where if they did, the companies will usually correct the problem with out and issue and often very quickly.I just got this same book nook as a Christmas present and I am looking forward to building it a second time.

Not a toy
Tedious as hell and the instructions for assembling the books gave me a migraine but really neat besides. Wouldn’t recommend for children.

AMAZING!
The media could not be loaded. This took me 3 solid days to build, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The instructions were easy to follow, and it wasn’t hard, just fiddly. It looks absolutely STUNNING once it’s finished. I gave it as a gift to my mother-in-law for Christmas and she absolutely loved it!.. I’m going to get one for myself soon.

So Much Fun to Build
Who knew that at 30-something years old I'd find a new hobby that I'm obsessed with? I've always been a puzzle lover... but honestly, they take up too much space and I hate packing them back in the box once I've completed them. This gives me the same fun as a puzzle, but a beautiful little piece of art that I can enjoy afterwards. It can be tedious, so keep that in mind, but if you love puzzles or legos or anything of that nature and want to venture out into a 3D wooden puzzle - this is an amazing place to start!

Nook book
This was okay in the end but the assembly was horrible. You had to glue every piece together. It came when promised but don't think I would order from this place again.

Hours of entertainment
Hours of entertainment, a lot more gluing than I thought but the outcome is great, it doesnt feel the most strudy, if you drop it fully assembeled it will likely fall into pieces but that might depend on how well of a job you did gluing.

Non workable battery case
The battery case that came with this book nook, is missing the other spring, that completes the battery circuit.Disappointing, as in order to complete the build and add the lights battery box needs to be connected..disapointed.

Beautiful and fun to do.
My 16 year old daughter loved this. We previously bought a miniature house that took a long time and a lot of skill. This was much easier and probably took around 10 hours. The instructions were quite good and everything came together nicely

Great kit
I'm really pleased with this. Well made pieces, clear photo instructions. Having fun making it and excited to see the finished nook. You'll need glue, a decent small scissors and ideally a craft knife, otherwise everything is included. There's lighting and a music box with this model.Great for craft and book lovers.
