It Depends: Employee Relations Case Studies for Human Resources Students and Professionals

A MUST read for HR students and personnel!
I found this book thought provoking and interesting. It presented many different examples of issues that HR people could face on a regular basis, then tweaked some of the facts to show how one or two simple details could have a different outcome on the situation. In an educational setting at a college or university, it would make an excellent workbook for students – very affordable, easy to read and follow. This would also be a great tool for companies to use as training in their HR department – it could assist in stimulating discussion and research among HR personnel. The fact that answers or solutions are not provided makes this a book that can be used in any country, province, state or continent. After all, as the book’s title infers, it (the answer) depends…

Exceptional Learning Resource
It Depends is an exceptional learning resource offering practical, real life employee relations scenarios. It Depends will appeal to HR professionals and students of any experience and knowledge level. For the experienced professional, it offers the opportunity to challenge your views and look at alternate approaches to scenarios you may or may not have encountered. For the less experienced professional or student, it offers you the opportunity to test and grow your knowledge with scenarios you’ll face regardless of industry and size of organization. In our company, we invited our HR team consisting of Generalist, Talent Acquisition and Learning & Development professionals of all knowledge and experience levels to participate in group discussions. The author’s presentation of the case studies and discussion questions enabled great dialogue, learning and sharing of viewpoints. While many great HR texts and resources exist, this is the first book I have found offering an appropriate variety of practical case studies to foster discussion among varying experience levels. I would recommend this book for teams and individuals looking to sharpen their employee relations skills and/or coach others in the development of their skills.

Meh
Not really helpful. No discussion guide or breakdown. Literally just a bunch of random situations.

No answers in the back
Had to buy it for class, no answers in the back.

What's the point
What's the point of these great scenarios if it doesn't provide you with the best answer for this scenario. How do you known if your response aligns with best practices. This would have a great reference book if there were answers. I am disappointed.

You need to read this book
Whether you're an HR specialist, a line manager, or just someone who works in a company that employs other people, you need to read this book. The scenarios Ms Champ presents are relevant and practical and help get you thinking about how you will respond when you encounter them some day. As an added bonus, if you follow Angela Champ on LinkedIn, she sometimes hosts online webinars to discuss approaches you can take to these scenarios. A nice, short read that will set you up for success in the difficult world of human relations.

Not good
I had high hopes from this book. Disappointing as only scenarios without answers.
