Works Great !
Don't waste time making one, this one will get the job done ! The quick release makes it extremely easy to adjust your work peice and swapping out to the next. I use this for Production sewing of the leather goods I make so it's getting put through it's paces. It's made of soft wood instead of hard, which I've been told won't last as long but only time will tell. The PU leather around the ends is a nice touch and they have some padding to them.Only complaint would be the clips it came with, but thay could have been my issue in not examining. They are not leTher wrapped. The clips are dipped in some sort of plastic. Some of the sharp ends of the clips have peirced through. I would use the clips for leather, but they would be good for anything else. Some reviews say the tension is weak, which it is out of the box. To fix that just adjust the tension screw and nut opposte to where the quick release is. You can make it pretty darn tight.Overall I'm happy.

Pony
Does the gym pony is really good it does serve its purpose to hold the leathers in place. It’s just something that makes your job easier when working or stitching the leather

Leather Pony
Leather pony works well, holds work well, nice and tight, adjustments work well. Easy to work with.

SMELLS LIKE WEED
The stitching pony works as it should, its a little cheaply made but works. My only issue is it must have been made and stored in a marijuana warehouse. It really stinks, smells like rotten skunk. Its so bad when my wife walked into my shop she thought I was smoking weed. I tried spraying it with air freshener with no luck its like the "funk" is soaked into the wood. I'll still use it for now but if the smell doesn't get better its gonna have to go into the trash and I'll have to look for another.

Sturdy and easy to understand
This item arrives in a box mostly assembled already. The only thing you have to do is place the bottom balancer wooden slat on with the included screw, washer, and wing-nut. The instructions are mainly just images, but it's quite simple. Screw goes in thru the bottom, washer and wing nut go on top to hold it in place. It IS a bit fiddly to do so, since there's only a small gap there to move your fingers around in. But once it's in, it's set! I'm storing it on the corner of my craft table upright and put together, but it's super easy to unscrew the base and store it back in the box if needed. There is some splintering of the wooden sides - might want to buff it real quick with a small piece of sandpaper, or even a paper-towel might work. The base section is rounded on the top, and the sanding on that part is well done. In the one I got, the bottom and the back don't fit together perfectly flat, (see attached images) there is a bit of a gap there, but this is a functional tool, so a bit of wonkiness doesn't bother me, as long as it does what I need it to!It comes with a set of 10 hefty clamps to hold leather pieces together in the orientation you want. The clamps have orange sparkly squishy molds over their biting ends to give them that "traceless" quality, aka blunting the sharp metal edge underneath. The jaws are indeed covered with a layer of white leather, quite soft and supple. It's possibly imitation leather, but either way is fine with me. They open only about half an inch, and close with a very positive grip. The switch to flip on the side is on-off, but there's a hex nut in the exposed mechanism that one might be able to adjust to make the contraption open wider if needed. But just for sewing, the basic amount is plenty.I'm going to use this as a third hand to hold my normal fabric sewing, not leatherwork, but either way! This is going to be really helpful! It gets 5 stars for being very easy to service - if any parts break, everything is visible, easy to pull apart and examine, and replace if needed.
