So relatable!
I loved this book. The sad truth is we have all had a Stephen in our lives and at times I wanted to shake sense into Lucy. However, her journey to self love and self worth without a man was truly inspiring.I'm lucky to now be married to my 'Evan' and reading this book just reminded me that we all have to kiss a Stephen DeMarco to realise what we truly deserve in a relationship.Definitely a must read!

Mixed feelings
I’m a bit confused by this book. Almost all the interactions between the MCs happen when they are on drugs but if not, then at least drunk. What’s the point in this? If this is a book about the college lifestyle, OK but do not dress it up like a book on relationships. If it is supposed to be about relationships, then why adding the drog use element all the time? How can we talk about emotions, behaviour towards other people etc. if the characters are constantly influenced by alcohol/drugs?So I don’t really know what to think about this book. If you cut out that everything they do or “feel” (think they feel…) happens when they are high/drunk, it could be a good story most of us can relate to I guess.

So gripping and i loved the fact you got both perspectives on the female and male character. A book I’ll read again for sure.

Not for me
Review tell me liesOk so I have to admit I wasn't keen on this one! This is quite possibly one of the worst thrillers I have ever read simply because it's nothing more than a bad romance and not a thriller at all. I still can't fathom how this book was put into that category! I only persevered as I am aware it has a popular TV show adaption so I wanted to see what the fuss was about. Now how this got to be a TV show is also unbelievable as the book doesn't have enough to be a TV show/series, but as I won't be watching the show after reading this then I'll never know! Furthermore if it's anything like the book it should be decommissioned immediately for the sake and sanity of future generations.I don't consider myself a prude, far from it, but this book depicts the worst of intimate relationships, not because there's any deviant sexual behaviour, but the behaviour of the two MCs is deeply problematic and runs the risk of people, especially young people, believing that this is in someway acceptable/normal romantic behaviour.Quite simply, the two MCs in question are both abhorrent human beings. At times I felt that the purpose of the book was to portray the girl as a victim and to highlight how easily one person can be taken advantage of by a predatory figure, however it quickly became apparent that they were both as bad as each other. With that revelation my sense of sympathy was completely lost as they were both so utterly unlikeable.Another point, the book was billed as a thriller but it is not a thriller. It's not clever, not smart, there's no twists that weren't predictable and the plot was boring, repetitive, banal unstimulating and frankly pathetic. And, again, I really worry that young people are reading and believing in this drivel. All I can say is save your time by not bothering to read this book, I certainly wish I hadn't wasted mine!!!

Stephen is the worst and at the same time I find Lucy just as dislikable. It’s an easy read but nothing spectacular or out of the ordinary.

Love and Deception
In Tell Me Lies, Carola Lovering crafts a gripping exploration of love, betrayal, and the complexities of young adulthood. The story follows Lucy Albright, who leaves her tumultuous past behind in Long Island to start afresh at a small college in California. Eager to escape her mother’s betrayal from her teenage years, Lucy dives into college life with enthusiasm until she meets the charming and enigmatic Stephen DeMarco.Stephen captivates Lucy, making her feel seen and valued in a way that no one else has before. However, beneath his alluring facade lies a dark past that he is desperate to hide—one that could threaten their burgeoning relationship. As Lucy becomes more entangled in Stephen’s world, she struggles with her instincts that warn her he is not entirely trustworthy, while Stephen grapples with the weight of secrets that could unravel everything.Lovering’s narrative alternates between the perspectives of Lucy and Stephen, providing readers with a rich understanding of their tumultuous connection that spans from college to post-college life in New York City. With psychological depth and captivating prose, Tell Me Lies offers an insightful look at the intoxicating yet perilous nature of relationships during young adulthood, exploring the complexities of desire, ambition, and the struggle to let go—even when it feels impossible. This novel is a compelling read for anyone drawn to stories of love tinged with suspense and emotional depth.

The ghost of the past
The author has portrayed narcissistic abuse so well. She has nailed it to the T. How the abuser thinks, the lack of empathy, the excuses the victim makes. At one point in my life, I was Lucy, madly in love with a narcissist. I wish I had come across the book back then. I really couldn't put this book down. It literally felt like I was reading MY story. The ending was perfect. The lines "may be he was magic to me, but not anymore." "The realisation doesn't make me want to sing from hilltops. It just makes me want to go and do something else." BANG ON!This is exactly how it feels when you're over their manipulative tactics, the love-bombing, the push and pull games. You're so over it that you don't care anymore.Brilliant job by Carola Lovering! It was too real!

Character exploration great quick read.
I began reading because of the series on Hulu. I like the way the series developed the characters. I was able to envision the actor/characters while reading the book. Lucy was depicted stronger in the Hulu series than the book I was slightly disappointed by the book version. I envisioned her differently than the author but I enjoyed both versions.I wish I had read the book first so I could’ve gotten the writers character descriptions vs the actors. I liked the perspective shifts giving each characters version of events. Creative writing. Great read.
