A Seamless Synology Experience
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5) I recently had the pleasure of diving into the world of network-attached storage (NAS) with the Synology NAS, and I must say, the experience has been nothing short of exceptional. From its effortless setup to its silent operation and smooth DiskStation Manager (DSM) interface, this NAS has exceeded my expectations on multiple fronts. **Ease of Setup: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)** Setting up the Synology NAS was refreshingly straightforward. Thanks to its intuitive design and well-documented instructions, I was able to get the NAS up and running within minutes. The included quick-start guide was easy to follow, and the web-based setup wizard made the process hassle-free even for someone with limited technical expertise. The fact that I didn't need to fiddle with complex networking configurations was a huge plus for me. **Silent Operation: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)** One of the standout features of this NAS is its almost silent operation. Unlike some other NAS systems I've encountered, the Synology unit emits minimal noise, making it a perfect addition to any home or office environment. Whether placed on a desk or tucked away in a closet, the whisper-quiet operation ensures that it doesn't disrupt the tranquility of the space. This is a huge advantage, especially when considering its potential placement in shared living areas. **Smooth DSM Interface: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)** The crown jewel of the Synology NAS experience is undoubtedly its DiskStation Manager (DSM) interface. Navigating through DSM feels like a breeze, thanks to its user-friendly layout and comprehensive features. Whether you're a tech-savvy user or a novice, DSM caters to both ends of the spectrum. I found the management of files, applications, and user accounts to be exceptionally well-organized, making it simple to customize the NAS according to my needs. **Conclusion:** In conclusion, the Synology NAS has proven to be a game-changer in the world of network-attached storage. Its seamless setup process, virtually silent operation, and smooth DSM interface make it a top-tier choice for both individuals and small businesses. Whether you're using it for personal data storage, media streaming, or even as a backup solution, the Synology NAS delivers on its promises. Its blend of user-friendliness and advanced capabilities truly sets it apart, making it a product I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone in need of reliable and efficient storage solutions.

Robust, efficient and enterprise grade for a home setup
The DS223 delivered a smooth deployment from the moment I installed the two drives. DSM recognized the disks instantly, storage pools built without errors, and all mobile devices completed their backups through Synology Drive and Photos with zero conflicts. Migrating documents and media from iCloud, Box, and Dropbox was straightforward thanks to Synology’s cloud‑sync tools and the file structure consolidation is far cleaner now. Internal LAN access is fast, and external access via QuickConnect and secure HTTPS works reliably for the entire family. For a compact 2‑bay NAS, the DS223 performs like a small office appliance which is stable, efficient and ideal for centralized backup and data management.

Decent home NAS at a good price.
I've had this for a several months now with no issues. This unit is easy to setup and configure. The UI is intuitive and clean. It's pretty much set and forget except for the occasional update of firmware, which I choose to do manually.

Goes far beyond simple storage
This Synology device goes far beyond simple storage: • File & Backup: Full PC/Mac backup, phone photo sync, and cloud sync with Google Drive or OneDrive. • Media Center: Streams movies, music, and photos to TVs, phones, and tablets. Plex and DLNA support included. • Web Hosting: Run your own web server with Apache/Nginx, PHP, and WordPress. • Virtualization: Create virtual machines (Windows/Linux) or run apps in Docker containers. • Networking & Security: Works as a VPN server (OpenVPN, L2TP/IPSec, PPTP) for secure remote access, and a reverse proxy server with free SSL from Let’s Encrypt. • Collaboration: Synology Drive, Office, Mail, Chat, and Calendar for private cloud use. • Surveillance: Manages IP cameras with motion alerts. • Remote Access: QuickConnect makes all files and apps available anywhere. It’s powerful, reliable, and user-friendly — a true all-in-one server for backup, media, web, VPN, and proxy needs.

Impressive - makes a great photo viewer
Ever since Monument Photo folded I've been looking for a good photo storage/viewer app. After much research I settled on this Synology server. The price is reasonable and it's extremely easy to set up and get going. This is the diskless version so I also purchased two Seagate Ironwolf 4TB hard drives to setup in a RAID configuration. The Synology startup software easily guides you through all the settings and it was up and running in 15 minutes. I then downloaded and installed their Photo app (Synology Photos) and so far I'm very impressed, Its way better than Monument Photo was. I am busy downloading my 3000+ photos so I have not explored all the features and settings yet, but Synology Photos is really nice and does everything I need plus much more. The mobile app works great and there is even an Apple TV app so you can show photos and slideshows on your smart TV. If you don't want to pay Google to store all your photos, this is the way to go.

Work great and still running strong
The unit is working great and still running strong. I did research for how to set it up from Youtube. There are plenty of Youtube instruction to set it up.

Weak hardware, QuickConnect and Drive barely usable
Good device, but you'll be heavily limited by its weak hardware and closed-source software. It doesn't support some UPS (uninterruptible power supplies), you won't be able to get video transcoding running on it, and there are plenty of other limitations too. Even a large number of torrents will noticeably load up the memory and it becomes noticeably less responsive. QuickConnect works very poorly and slowly, so it's basically useless except in rare cases. Synology Drive also turned out to be very slow — while uploading files, the entire system (Windows/macOS) freezes up, like it's some piece of software from 2002. So Synology Drive ended up being unusable too — I had to delete everything. Keep this in mind. Honestly, I'm more frustrated that I spent money on it instead of just building my own NAS from the start.

Not bad
Slow but gets the job done. Lots of great features provided you have the time to set them up. Use this for hosting a website among other things

5 stelle meritate! 💾📂✨

NAS for Techies
The setup requires bit of networking knowledge. It is not direct plug the ethernet cable and automatically recognized / configured. You need to put a L3 switch between computer and this NAS, then find the IP address and then configure it. I
