Fun and Funny book that has a message
This book is a perfect blend of lively illustrations and snappy dialogue between the shark and the robot, two unlikely friends who challenge the young reader to think differently about our differences.

Delightfully quirky feel-good graphic novel!
"Shark and Bot" proves to be one of the most delightful and off-beat graphic novels for the elementary school set. Author and illustrator Brian Yanish cleverly sets up the evolution of the friendship between Shark (a Great White who's afraid of tiny insects and cuddles a stuffed wombat) and Bot, a robot who is very good at facts and figures (but not good at meeting people). What seems to be drawbacks in the characters become their strengths, and the author does this freshly (not tritely, as we have all seen this done before)--and with a great deal of humor that will appeal to both children and adults reading with them. I loved the expressions of all the characters throughout the book! There are so many subtle (and also not-so-subtle) jokes. The author also weaves in a story-within-a-story of super hero donuts who save the world (oops! Spoiler Alert!) Two stories in one book! Hope there's another book coming about the fabulous "Glo-Nuts"!!! I bought "Shark and Bot" after thoroughly enjoying Yanish's last book "Pirate Chicken: All Hens on Deck," which was beloved by all the littles in my life. I would recommend this for kids in Grades 1-4, depending on their reading level, and it's a good choice for reluctant readers or for Kindergarteners to read with an adult. So fun!

Excellent new book about friendship for young children
“Shark and Bot” is a new book, written by Brian Yanish for children ages 5 through 8, give or take a year. It introduces new characters, whom we can look for in future adventures. Brian Yanish is both the author and the very clever artist, who provides fine illustrations throughout. The book asks the question whether an Australian great white shark and a robot with an electric saw for a left hand, can be friends. The shark’s stuffed animal, “Batty,” looks a lot like a teddy bear, but is actually a wombat king from Australia, who shares their adventures. There are also super-hero doughnuts, known as “Glo-nuts,” who acquired special powers from an explosion in their underground secret laboratory. These heroes run into problems with bullies who try to take over the playground, creating the book’s second big question: can they find a way to be friends with these bullies? The ultimate climax is a dance contest between the two teams. You’ll have to read the book, of course, to find out who wins. This book seems to have the right themes for the age group. The major theme is “friendship.”

It's fun and quirky!
It's really neat to have characters in books that seemingly don't match up at all, and yet, somehow they come together SO well. Shark and Bot get to know each other, celebrate their differences together, and then figure out a way to approach bullies together. It's fantastic, and awesomely creative. Yanish always has a wonderful sense of humor, and he never underestimates the kid brain. My kids really enjoyed the book, and finished it within seconds of it arriving at our house.

Fantastic book
My 6-year old twin niece and nephew are obsessed with SHARK AND BOT. The book just arrived three days ago and we have read it three times. We learned the dance which is taught in the book and are now learning to draw the characters. Hoping the sequel is out soon. We just order Brian Yanish' other books.
