A journey from darkness into the LIGHT.
This movie is an attack on both corporate and consumer culture which forces people into living a meaningless groundhog day existence day after day after day. What's really scary, as demonstrated by Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) in this movie, is that people never question the world around them and accept the 9-5 rat race as perfectly normal, even wearing a beaming smile as they go about their daily routines that squash anything spontaneous or emotional. Truman bucks this trend as the movie progresses, gradually recognising that the world around him and the people who populate it aren't who they appear to be. By the end of the film, the penny has dropped and Truman is under no illusions about what is really going on. I won't say anymore at this point, but would remind viewers to think about Plato's 'Allegory of the Cave' which appears in his classic philosophical work 'The Republic' and basically charts the journey of a man from ignorance (darkness) to enlightenment (light). A profound work by Australian director, Peter Weir, and a film that will stay with you for a long time after the Show is over. Watch it now!

The first time I saw this movie I absolutely loved it! It's not to everyone's taste as my partner finds it somewhat boring but I could watch this a million times overThis movies looks at the life of Truman (Jim Carrey) who is about to discover just how abnormal his seemingly 'normal' life is. What he doesn't realise is that his whole life is a reality t.v show, televised and broadcast for the world to see set up by Cristof (Ed Harris) Cristof tries to control all aspects of trumans life, even removing his true love, Sylvia (Natascha McElhone) from the show and replacing her with Meryl (Laura Linney). Truman starts to discover the truth...but will he act on it.This arrived on prime the next day brand new wrapped in cellophane so could be given as a gift. The OCD perfectionist in me loves this film as everything is so perfect! From his overly upbeat wife, happy neighbours and beautiful homes. the special features on this blu ray film are-how's it going to end? The making of the Truman show part 1how's it going to end? Truman Show 4K UHD
My copy arrived well before release date in the UK and I had a family movie night....The kids absolutely loved it and I had forgotten just how great this movie is and how relevant it remains. For me the transfer was decent if unremarkable. There were a few shots that gave me that native 4k detail and intense colour vividness I have been spoiled by but for the most part I just had the feeling that it could look a bit better. Wide shots rarely had more than middling definition. Foliage and building textures were average mostly. Close ups fared the best but again fell flat and I feel a higher average bit rate may have helped elevate this one. I guess there are limitations with different camera/lenses/film stocks maybe in use throughout. I kept thinking...I wonder what Sony could have done with this transfer??Occasionally low bit rates and some possible fltering to mask the chroma noise and wonky compression sometimes found on HDR10 base layers and that would seem to be the case here. I can't comment on Dolby Vision as I am not set up for this currently.Paramount are the least consistent studio for 4K but on the whole a decent disk IMO.

Deep reflecting on the reality of the world
* Brief synopsisAn ordinary man (Jim Carrey), somewhere in the contemporary USA, has a routine life, but he beings to find an undercurrent of conspiracy against him.* CommentThis film is about a man whos an unwitting star of a show about his life with hundreds of people in on it. Truman breaks his pleasant lifestyle when he slowly becomes aware of his shifting world viewpoint with a deep but rather dry, academic version of what could be described as paranoid schizophrenia symptoms. This questioning of his world and conspiracy explanations behind this is a sign, coupled with a few trigger situations to support this in his mind, of this condition. His dad rediscovered, the hearing of radio following his driving, the truth of characters walking about his home, is clear from his viewpoint. The fact he knows nothing about the life he's had for 30 or so years and becoming aware of this world focusing on everything he does, stresses his mind and temporarily overwhelms him. I won't say the ending but its deep too.

One of the deepest movies from the 90s
a brillant thought-provoking movie that takes you on this fantastic journey of discovery for the character Jim Carey plays. The closing line to the movie is especially poignant and shows the futility of entertainment and with themes more relevant today than it was at the time of its release. A deep and orignal idea that was executed amazingly by director Peter Weir. One you mustn’t miss from such a great decade of films!

Genuine classic
This is the film that proves the oscars are a load of nonsense. Carey's finest ever performance that was more than good enough to win an Oscar. The film itself is a classic. Everyone should see this at least once. Best of all, it doesn't spoon feed and requires some imagination, that is a very rare feat.
