This is kind of an expensive pain in the a$$, that’s the same as cheaper products.The old Yakima designs were adjustable, convenient, and secure. The new one is not. In lieu of a locked rack having a design that inherently prevents theft, the new system uses a semi-uncommon Allen wrench to attach to the car, in addition to the key. So now I have to not lose a special Allen wrench, keep it with the rack, and hope nobody else has one wherever one staying. Would I leave my stuff in this rack overnight at a hotel? Probably not; your security isn’t tied to the uniqueness of your specific key, it’s based of the luck that nobody else brought their fancy Allen wrench that comes with every Yakima product or is sold at Stores.The Allen wrench is also required every time to want to raise of lower the extension arm. You have to loosen all the connections, adjust the height, then retighten everything. The old system could be loosened and flipped or dropped quickly without tools.

Extremely high quality. Works even in freezing cold temperatures with no issues. Yes even with ice on the product it can still be opened with ease. I definitely recommend! Dont settle for the cheap stuff. Buy yakima or thule products if you dont want a headache of failures due to cold weather.

I tried to save some money on cheaper ones and they were awful. Spend the money on these. Totally worth it.
