Fantastic Four (Penguin Classics Marvel Collection)

This collects issues #1-5, #10-11, #48-51 and Annual #6 of the Lee and Kirby original run of Fantastic Four! Throughout the book there are short articles explaining the cultural contexts surrounding the Fantastic Four, their creation, and their impact on Superhero stories throughout the 60s. You will meet Dr Doom, The Sub-Mariner (including a bonus of his originalcomic from 1939), Galactus, The Silver Sufer and many more classic antagonists in their original forms! The colours pop and Kirbys art is the cleanest it's ever looked, everything about the collection just oozes with the passion for the content! The hardback it beautiful too, sturdy with a lovely blue and gold colour scheme and gold finish on the page edges. Can't recommend highly enough for new (or soon-to-be) fans of the FF, or for comic history lovers who will enjoy the insight on the behind the scenes info!

Printed on thick matte slightly off white paper - it's like a great sweet spot between the original newsprint edition and an omnibus. The layout of the book is very nice especially with the page borders which are large enough to mitigate gutter loss. It seems like these might be one shot releases for each Marvel title but I would love to see further volumes that dive a little deeper into later issues.

A little tick but nothing major

Perhaps not my favourite of the recent batch but this is still a superb Marvel collection with some classics from the 60s. The paper quality, the book, the entire look, all first rate. Love the inclusion of the essays and the reference notes.Hope Penguin continue with many more volumes such as Sub Mariner, Thor, Iron Man, Captain Savage, Patsy Walker etc
