Sounds Fantastic. Built to last and attractive to look at.
This is the best cd player I've owned and I've paid up to $2500 for one. It seems to get better every week in sound. Being 32 bit, it more completely extracts CD info for a very present and detailed sound. I should say I'm feeding it with an expensive interconnect and power cord. Also, it reads some disks that my previous player couldn't. IMO, it's audiophile CD player in its price range. It's heavy and built like a tank. Is likely the last CD player I will ever buy.

Great sound and silent player.
Quite player and sounds great. Love listening to the SACDs in the way they were meant to be heard. Easy navigation through remote. Wish the remote was not plastic, but not a deal breaker. Open box item. Called seller with question and customer service was easy to reach and good communication.

Denon SACD 1700 NE player
Great sound, heft and appearance. Had a Yamaha s1000 for 2 years that needed an impossible to find a firmware update.. so it died on me. Using Pure Direct with with high quality amp , preamp, speakers and cables. So far, great value and saved 500 with"open box" purchase. Silver model looks stunning.

Smell Emanating Out From CD Tray Area
The DCD1700NE was easy to install. It sounds great. Runs quietly. The remote is functional, but feels rather cheap (particularly next to the brushed aluminum remote for my amp). But truly, I'm only writing a review because there is an odd, sharp smell emanating from the cd tray area (the only area open to the inside of the unit). The smell isn't one I associate with electrical burn, but I have no idea what it could be. I don't notice it unless I'm in front of the unit changing out a disc. That said, I'm seriously considering returning the unit while I still can.I spoke with Denon and after some back and forth, I merely got the names of some repair shops in my region of the U.S. The person I spoke with never actually got around to considering my questions. I can't really extrapolate much from the exchange. So I write this as I listen to the player perform flawlessly while wondering whether to return it anyway. I'd give the unit five stars for its performance thus far, but one star for the doubt it has instilled in me as a result of the smell. Perhaps that is unfair, but there it is.Edit: I decided to return the unit, but not before talking with a Denon associate using the phone number that Amazon provides when problem solving whether to return an item (a different number from the one on the Denon website).I discussed the smell issue and the associate talked with a tech about the issue. The advice was to return the item. It shouldn't smell, I'm told. So that's what I'm doing. In the meantime, I ordered another. The new player has the same smell, only this time I checked before even plugging in the unit. If the smell is from an electrical burn or malfunctioning part, then the malfunction occurred at the factory. Otherwise, I'd say the smell isn't a concern. But...I still don't feel comfortable. And I'm not sure how much knowledge credit to extend to those working at Denon who answer the phones. The fate of DCD-1700NE number two is undecided.
