Seagate ST1000LX015 2.5-Inch 1 TB FireCuda 5400 RPM SATA Internal SSHD Hard Drive with 7 mm Form Factor - Silver

I have an HP Pavilion laptop with a fairly fast i5 process and 8Gbyte RAM but it was unacceptably slow to boot and start applications. The particular version iv laptop I have does not have an M.2 slot to install an M.2 NVMe drive. My only option was an SSHD. With a bit off fiddling around with free software and Windows utilities I cloned the windows system to this drive (previously was a 2TB drive) I was pleasantly surprised by the results. It takes a few restarts got the best performance from the SSD cache but now the PC is up and running from a cold start in less then 20% of the time with the old drive. Frequently used applications also start much faster than before. The performance certainly exceeded my expectations. I have, in the past, found Samsung drive to be very reliable and I am pleased with the purchase.

The Seagate ST1000X015 2.5" 1TB FireCuda is a modern high speed hybrid hard-disk drive with an 8GB SSD (Solid State Drive) cache/buffer/scratch-pad to speed up the frequently used files. However it is not as fast as a dedicated SSD only drive.My new drive lives in the plug-in slot in my laptop where the system drive used to be, and an internal SSD has taken over as the C: boot drive with all the system and program files etc. The new 1TB drive is now D: and is used for storing data, mostly HD/4K video and stills while I'm working on them before they go off to their final usage. It is quicker and cheaper to move a box of ten 1TB drives around by courier than to use the internet to send this much data.Drive Management in W7P formats the new drive in less than half a minute, giving an NTFS formatted working capacity (non-bootable and without O/S) of 1,000,068,635,870,144 bytes (931GB). After a thorough search taking some time the standard block check failed to find any bad blocks or sectors. Big file transfers approach the maximum speed of the drive at about 122MBytes/s write and 130Mbytes/s read, smaller files can be twice the speed if cached on the SSD but most are not, even so I am very happy with this drive.

5 star rating as it does exactly as promised and is fast whilst doing it! Learns quick and loads windows and applications really fast after a while. Even without using the SSD side of it the drive loads games fast and you're never left waiting to enter a game.Of course it is still mostly a mechanical drive so windows can get overwhelmed and get the blue circle whilst you wait if you're trying to do to much at once. And Windows updates are fast but still take a while compared to a SSD.This is why, despite being very pleased with the drive, I can't recommend it. For only slightly more cost (~£20) most buyers can use a cheap SSD for Windows and a standard Barracuda HDD for games and storage. Making windows faster in general and a fair bit snappier. Unless you only have one drive bay or a strict budget it doesn't make sense as a purchase to me.

Despite Windows best efforts this disc has improved my laptop. It does boot up quickly as long as updates have not been installed. Because there is plenty of storage my laptop which I think is 6 years old or more, is now appearing to run a lot better. I would recommend this disc. Although I had to use the Windows 10 recovery software, because the Seagate software would not work (because it could not detect a Seagate disc) well it wouldn’t because this was my first Seagate disc so it would not image my old disc.

Purchased to upgrade computer. When fitted by an IT specialist it didn’t work, he purchased a new one which did work. Now sat in an envelope not usable. Wasted spend. Poor experience.

Great hard drive for day 1 realease PS4 No problem installing 10+ games on it including COD, loads in with ps5 and pc players so its super fast, just need to download ps4 saved game data on a memory stick before you change it

Easy to use and install. Generic size fits most Laptops with 2.5 enclosures. Best served using for Operating system as oppose to just a storage device. Speeds your machine up as well.
