This thing is a bit fiicky. Pressingthe power button will give you an initial reading that may not be representative of what you're pointing at, but after a few tires, you will get a believable number from it. I bought this to replace a RYOBI multi-function device that no longer works properly and is no longer made. For the price, I believe this ThermoPro TP410 was a good purchase.

Great for item for tempering a salt block in oven before using on grill. Have used on a Grill to check heat and meat temperature. Easy and fast to use. Easy to store.

Update: Company saw my review and contacted me immediately. Tried to troubleshoot and then sent me a new thermometer. Changed my review to 5 * as I appreciate great customer service. New thermometer working flawlessly. Thank you very much for standing behind your product. Original review: Worked well until it stopped working only slightly a month after ordering. Right outside the return window. Trash quality control.

After having this for a while, I decided to air my grievances. This is a nice small device, and I want to love it ...but there is a lag between the release of the button and the temperature Hold. So IF you move the thermometer just a bit after releasing the button, the temp reading shows the last thing it was pointed at. Example, you hit the button, the laser shows you are on the center of your cast iron pan that has been preheating on med-hi, you release the button, flip it up to see the reading, and the temp records as 106, which is 106 which is the stove top that it was pointing at when it held the temp. When you release the button, you need to keep it pointed at the surface you want to measure for a second or two after releasing the button, or you get an errant reading. Neither one of my other gun style IR thermometers have this issue. So, they lose 2 stars for making me have to remember to .....wait...then look at the reading.

We use this to test surface temps in florida before having our service dog walk with us. Gives accurate temps so we can decide if we need to put on his booties for protection.

This make using the outdoor griddle so much more effective. Can easily tell the temp and allows me to control the temp so much easier that the guesswork I was doing.
