I got this to go with the above kit, and it is great for working up really dull blades after using the 800 grit stone. I have found that I am using this stone more than the 800 stone as my blades are very sharp now, it is a shame that nobody puts this stone in a kit.

I bought this waterstone several months ago and to be honest, couldn't really get the best out of it. But... Now that I have a 400 grit stone and a 6000 grit finishing stone, the 1200 grit one is a triumph.It is important to note that if you have a very dull knife, this won't reshape the edge as its too fine, but used in conjunction with the other two stones I have its superb.One of the best things I like about it is that it's a bit bigger than most waterstone a on the market and provided you keep the sharpening surface flat, it adds a good edge to blades before the final polish on higher grit stones.So in conclusion, by itself it's not enough to sharpen knives as sharply as I want them but as part of a series of different graded stones it's a great addition.I use Global, Wusthof and Yaxell knives and they're as sharp as I've ever known them.
