Hark!: The Biography of Christmas

Excellent, very informative. Cover endorsements made me wonder if I had made a mistake but no, contents well set out with a gently humorous note throughout - the author is a comedian - but it is an intelligent, considered look at how we have arrived at the Christmas we have. Anyone who loves Christmas will find this interesting. Can be read through from start to finish or for the browser there are bullet points that give the main points.

Paul's easy friendly nature comes across whilst giving a proper perspective on why we do what we do at Christmas. He debunks myths gently on all sides for anyone getting too precious about traditions that have changed, and gave me plenty of chuckles throughout. It's really good to read without being heavy, plenty of facts to find ...and the quiz is good for that moment when the combination of shopping, sprouts, in-laws and TV repeats needs something extra over the holidays (i.e. any time between November & February)

An OUTSTANDING piece that EVERYONE whether you're into Christmas or not should read or listen to (Audible). Paul Kerensa tells the story & history of Christmas in a superb way, in 12 bite sized chunks with his usual aplomb and subtle humour. I cannot recommend this book highly enough p.s. Who knew King Herod had a wife called Doris!!!

Both interesting and amusing, this book is great to dip into as well as worth reading in its entirety. For me, it will also be useful as a source of readings to include in concerts around Christmas which is an added bonus.

Lovely little book full of facts about Christmas and its traditions and history. Great fun.
