Structured Computer Organization 6th Edition

I am a software developer (C/C++) and was looking a book about hardware internals i.e. how my computer works (CPU, branch prediction, cache lines, memory etc etc).Initially I bough Patterson&Hennessy but it was almost useless for me - it was hard to read, messy organization, no explanation for basics things.Then I bought this book, and WOW it was a great pleasure for me to read it. It was easy to read - I finished the book in ~4 weeks (reading it at evenings before going to sleep). Tanenbaum uses 'simplified English' - it is a great help for me as English is not my native language. The book starts from basic things known to most software engineers and goes deeper and deeper into details. Actually I went ahead and bought another his great book - 'Networks'.Some people are complaining about poor exercises - I cannot really evaluate it. I do not care about exercises, I mostly skipped it as I was interested in the theoretical part.

This is identical to the normal textbook other than the cover. Well worth the savings if you need the book for class. It is just as sturdy as any of the O'Reilly technical manuals I own. It also has a significant amount of information if you need a reference book to computer hardware. I plan on keeping it after class completes.

This book is great! I wasn't sure initially because this is a global edition, but the content is exactly similar to the content of the same book sold in the US. This is a never late content, if you are a software engineer and wants to level up your career, this is a must learn content. Everything in this book will help you better understand how to write excellent software.

Very disappointed. Nowhere in the description was this product described as a foreign release (India). This release does not have a ISBN, and has different questions at the end of each chapter than the US release. This is not usable when the instructor assigns questions from the text. The vendor (EvaPort) states US release (with ISBN) is only available in hard cover at large $, however my instructor has the soft cover version. Also the description states "with CD ROM" which is not the case. That text does not have an accompanying CD ROM in any release (that I have found) Very disappointing.

Great price for an overseas copy printed in India. I got it for my college going son. It is exactly the same as the much expensive verson printed locally.

The author provides a lot of details, but examples are not as clear and content while explained concisely, is a bit to short to fully expand on a topic. A good reference book, but other books may help a student grasp the subject with less effort.

Good book, helpful for 400 level study.

I've been using this book for a college class and it has been the exact same as the more expensive version.
