Superb cat flap!
I'm new to owning cats and have two 5 month old kittens. I became desperate to have a flap fitted so they could come and go as they pleased and I could have the back door closed as to avoid pesky flies coming into the kitchen during the summer. I was intrigued by the design of Sureflap and I thought it was an excellent idea reading their chips. So far so good! The product is of robust construction and pretty nifty looking. My upvc door doesn't have a metal lining, just solid polystyrene, so there's no issue of interference with the optical scanner. What I would say is, take your sizes correctly if it's to be fitted to a upvc door with dressing panels. The unit only just fitted between the dressing and the border trim of my door. It couldn't have been any tighter to be honest. The unit is 21 cm by 21 cm, square shaped. The actual aperture is 14.5 cm wide by 12 cm high (that's with the flap being in the open position). It's not a great size if you have a beast of a cat, but as we all know, cats can make themselves quite slinky so I don't think you'd have problems unless your cat was ridiculously large! It's perfect for my two. At the moment. The male doesn't stop eating! But I really can't envisage any future problems. It was quite difficult getting them used to having the flap, however, presenting a bag of treats on the opposite side of the glass worked instantaneously lol. It is a little more expensive than other flap designs due to the technology of the product, but it's well worth the extra for the peace of mind that only my kittens can enter my house and they don't have to wear collars. The mechanical locking mechanism for the flap is genius! There are 4 settings on a rotary style lever. You can set it to locked closed in both directions, remain open for entry only but locked to go out, remain open for exit only but locked to come in and finally, locks off for both in and out. Well handy! I'm just wondering how long the batteries will last in reality but other than that, I can't fault the thing. Top product!

Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap_Brilliant, well made. Cost saving versus infra red type.
We have 3 cats and my son has 2 cats and visits frequently. INFRA RED COLLAR TAG TYPE: We had used a different manufacturers infra red type cat flap for 2 years, until four months ago, when we finally decided the cost of buying the replacement infra red transmitters was prohibitive at between £10 to £15 each time. Either the plastic collar tag terminals corroded or the plastic collar tag cases split - with monotonous frequency. To be fair to the manufacturer, the tags are guaranteed for 2 years and they say they will issue a replacement free of charge - but you try finding the receipt for the respective INFRA RED collar tag after several weeks - we were never able to take advantage of the maker's 2-year guarantee We abandoned the INFRA RED collar tags and left the cat flap unlooked so that our cats could come and go as they pleased. This worked well for 4 months until last week – 27th January 2013 – when a neighbourhood un-neutered tom cat decided to visit on two consecutive nights and spray urine on the furniture downstairs. Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap: We bought the Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap on the basis of the highest number of 5 Star reviews we have seen of a product. I was concerned that the hole in our new PVC back door would not be the right size to fit the Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap. There was no need to worry as the sizes were almost identical and did not need any modifications – other than the screw holes were in slightly different positions and I had to drill 2 x new 6mm holes to fit the new cat door. The build quality of the Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap is excellent – the housing components fit together seamlessly, the plastic is thicker, the door features a draught excluder, which works (it doesn’t stop draughts completely but is more effective at minimising draughts compared to our previous cat flap). The Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap door is marginally narrower than our previous cat flap by about 10mm but this has not proved to be a problem with our 3 cats, two of which are quite large in size. Aesthetically, the Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap is very good. In operation, the Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap has been flawless and so far as we are able to determine, has allowed our cats unimpeded access, whilst denying the neighbourhood tom cat access to spray in our house. I like many people, do not usually write reviews for the many products, which I buy. I am so impressed with the Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap that I felt compelled to review it. It deserves its 5 Star reputation. It is an excellent product.

FANTASTIC!
So, the usual cat owner problem, our cat soft as grease (as are the neighbours cats in fairness, though it's fair to say one of them is soft as dough... like a dough ball... that eat all the other dou.... you know what I'll say it, SHE'S FAT. That kitty consumes worlds for breakfast, she should have the silver surfer going ahead of her to warn people of their impending planetary doom), as I was saying...... just sits back and watches the neighbours cats eat his food. When we're at work we have no idea if he's actually managed to get a look in (as we work different times sometimes he's not in when food goes down). Well that has all changed thanks to this cat flat! *Robust construction - Definitely the most sturdy cat flap we have used. *Easy installation - if in a glass door you will need a new glass panel that has a hole in it (less than £30 for a patterned, toughened, double glazed panel with the required cut out for the flap, from my local glazer) you will need the additional surround (frankly this finishes it off much nicer anyway) and bare in mind, you may need to trim the bottom of the said surround, but unless you are infirm this is a simple task with a good sharp stanley knife (other brands of knife are available), or I guess hacksaw and file.... *VERY EASY TO REGISTER YOUR CAT(S) and for the cats to use - Even our cat that is scared of anything different had no problem wandering up to it and soon (less than a few hours) was happily hopping in and out. *Batteries last around 6 months and there is a low battery indicator. *IT IS NOT TRIGGERED by your cat simply being in the vicinity, this is the cleaver part, it reads the chip as your cat pokes it's head in (and it is instant), so no chance of interlopers popping in just because your cat is sat on the back step, or sat next to the flap. *The most compact scanning cat flap I have seen, it is barely bigger than a normal cat flap. *Our cat is much happier and seems a lot more settled now. Sir Isaac Newton would be proud of Sureflap for improving upon his invention! UPDATE: ONE YEAR ON *Changed the batteries for the first time late last month. *Still working fantastically well. *The flap has now paid for itself due to the money we have saved in food. *Our cat is a hell of a lot more confident and happy than he was, to the point where when he is outside he no longer let's other cat's bully him. *As an added bonus we have noticed that we no longer get gusts of wind blowing through on stormy days!

Good product - a few things to note
We were having problems with other cats coming into the house eating our cat's food and spraying around the house. Friends recommended this product. Delivery - quick. First impressions - item is well packaged and appears to be good quality. Comprehensive well written instructions are included. The unit requires 4 x AA batteries but these are NOT included. Installation - pretty straight forward. In our case we didn't need the mounting adapter (sold separately) and all that was basically required was to remove the old cat flap and slot the new one in and then fix the two parts together with 2 screws that go from the outer side through the door panel to the inside part. 3 different sized screws are provided to allow for different door thicknesses - good idea!. It was a bit fiddly to get the fixing screws to locate from the outside through the door to the main unit. Getting the cat to use it - programming is pretty straight forward if you follow the instructions. I'd recommend programming the unit with the cat's microchip before fixing the unit to the door. We just took the one half of the unit, switched it to learn mode and put it close to our cats neck whilst they were sleeping and bingo - programmed!. The locking mechanism, isn't magnetic but uses a sliding plastic bolt. This makes a noticable click when the cat uses it and initially it might scare the cat - the manufactures recognise this and offer tips to get the cat to use it - after 10 minutes our cat was reasonably content. 5 operating modes exist - the default is to only allow your cats in but to allow all cats out. (useful if in the unlikely event another cat sneaks in directly behind your cat before the cat flap locks again); Locked both ways; In only; out only. There is a completely open mode as well which allows all cats to come and go (this is a little fiddly to set up and requires you to set the cat flap to learn mode and then remove the batteries). It is suggested that batteries will last 6-12 months. We're using Duracell Ultra so hopefully we'll comfortably get that. Why not 5 stars? - maybe a bit nit picking but this is an £80 cat flap after all. (1) In the event of a battery fail your cat could be locked out (2) You may need to buy an additional plastic mount (£10) if your door is the wrong size - At this price it should be included in the pack (3) Although the cat flap fits exactly into the gap left by the old cat flap because of the sensor mechanism the gate is significantly smaller and if you have a fat cat it might struggle to get get through (4) As previously mentioned it was a bit fiddly to align the fixing screws. (5) on closer examination of the main unit you could see electrical wiring immediately behind where the fixing screw goes in on one side. If you use the wrong screw you could possibly damage this wiring - seems like a silly design flaw in what otherwise seems to be a well designed bit of kit. Don't let these minor quibbles put you off, so far we are very impressed with this unit.

Superb Item, Highly Recommended
I have to say that this cat flap is fantastic. Great quality build and the design is first rate. Simple to install and just as simple to program to my cats microchip. I was a bit worried because the vet, who should've gone to Specsavers, couldn't get the chip in my poor cat in the right place. It ended up off center of the back of his neck but there's no need to worry as the Sureflap just detected it faultlessly and continues to do so. The only problem now is trying to get the furry little bugger to use it . . . he's a little dense and it looks like patience, many treats and encouragement will be required. I couldn't recommend this highly enough though, it works flawlessly and was extremely easy to program (do this first!) then install. If my cat is too thick to ever use it it'll be a highly decorative piece of door furniture. Hey ho Update: Within a couple of days of having the Sureflap installed we've managed to get our moggie to start using it. Extensive bribery with treats works wonders. Take a look at the many YouTube videos for ideas on getting your cat to use it. Of interest, one technique is to tape the flap open permanently so the cat doesn't have to push the flap in the early stages. This worked wonders and he was able to find his way back into the house in no time. Unfortunately, traveling the other way is still a mystery to him but I'm sure we'll get there . . . Anyway, during this 'taped up' experiment we found one of the neighbours bigger Toms showing interest. Not long later and the big boy had become an intruder! I'm now so pleased I paid the extra for this item rather than a bog standard cat flap. Locking out the neighbours cats is fantastic and will make our cats life easier and stress free. He's lovely, just wish he wasn't so dense Further Update: After some hesitation our furry family member is now using this cat flap freely, both to go out and come back in. I've lost count of the number of times the neighboring cats have tried and been denied access. The main offender has now completely given up even trying! It's hard to convey just how much of an improvement to our home life this device is. No more having to open the door every time he wants go out or come in, no more having to worry about invaders nicking his biscuits. This is one of the best buys we've made and I seriously can't recommend it highly enough Further Further update: Got a cat? Just get one! After a few weeks our furry friend now uses this constantly and the days of having to get up to open doors through constant meowing are gone. Seriously, this is such an improvement in quality of life, particularly with a moggy who changes his mind every 5 minutes. Of course, the major advantage with Sureflap is the microchip and as I've commented before this works like a dream. The other older local bully cats no longer even bother trying the flap, they did so many times but never once got in. This is just a superb device and I can't imagine being without it now. I couldn't rate this highly enough. Quality construction, excellent instructions, even a selection of screw sizes for different doors. Wonderful

Best cat flap, but they had to modify for my clear cat (great customer service though!)
I love this cat flap. I didn't want other cats coming in, and this uses the cat's chip to know who's allowed in and who is not. It's the perfect feature and it works really, really well. It's easy to set up and the cat learned to use this flap (his first) very quickly. Here's the bit that SureFlap had to help me with: There are multiple options on what the cat can do, with a little dial to change that option. I use the dial so that during the day he can come and go, but at night he can come back in but then not get back out again. This worked fine, until he worked out how to cheat the dial and get out again. I have to say, he's a pretty bright cat, since cheating the dial meant getting himself in a position while inside the house so that his chip triggered the 'let me in' function (when he was already in...). He then pushed down the indoor clip with his paw while using his claws to drag the door inward. Then he did a pincer movement of dropping his paw and pushing his head under so he could get out. Sometimes it took him more than one go, but after a couple of weeks he could get out even when locked in. But bright or not, he could get out when he wasn't supposed to be able to do so. I contacted SureFlap on Facebook and they sent me a modified indoor part, quickly and at no cost. It was a fiddly job to change the parts and I hope they might, in future, simply supply others with the complete 'inside' bit rather than the replacement parts. However, I can't complain about their response: they acted quickly and it was only a few nights before I could lock him in again. That said, we did have a £200 vets bill from an early morning escapade that resulted in a cat bite.

Do not buy. It will cost you time, sleep and money.
It's 3am. You're in the depths of slumber. Your body gradually rejuvenating itself, preparing you for the busy day ahead. Nothing can bother you. In your dreams you are the master of your own destiny. Except those who have purchased a 'SureFlap Cat Flap with Microchip Identification, White, 21 x 21 cm'. Because for you, you will be awoken at hourly intervals to your cat trying to head-butt his way through the inoperable plastic gateway which serves not as a gateway, but a barrier to your feline overlord entering his dominion. You may as well have saved your £60 and endured the incessant miaows at the window, or the desperate squeak of paws at the glass, wax-on wax-off fashion, attracting your attention to his plight of being outside. "You've just been unlucky enough to receive a faulty product", I hear you say. And yes, that was my initial reaction too. On contacting the customer service desk, you will be politely provided with an assortment of top tips, to get the best out of your 'SureFlap Cat Flap with Microchip Identification, White, 21 x 21 cm’. Adjust the screws, for fixing them too tight can be the cause of this problem. Still seeing no improvement? Try cleaning the battery contacts - poor connections can impede operation. (On an item less than nine months old, this all seems unlikely, but you don’t want to cause undue hassle. You willingly oblige.) When this fails, you are asked what batteries you are using, because of course, you were informed that only premium batteries work with their product... No recollection of this requirement on purchase? No, me neither. But this is an irrelevance, as everyone knows the old adage, 'you buy it cheap, you buy it twice'. (SureFlap being the exception). You cat will suffer significant distress. Imagine the thoughts of your disapproving companion, when he fears he’s been locked out for good. For you, there will be months of domestic disharmony, as you succumb to middle of the night arguments as to whose turn it is to allow the blighter in, repeating the whole process an hour later, when it's clear he returned solely to stock up on Whisk-as Tasty Pockets, before making the arduous journey back to the neighbour's garden to evacuate his bowels. My main criticism of the 'SureFlap Cat Flap with Microchip Identification, White, 21 x 21 cm' is that it fails in its primary function of being a cat flap - allowing a cat in and out of your home, without involving you in the process. **** UPDATE: A replacement was finally offered which has been working without issue for almost 2 months now. ****

No me parece justo.
