Review: Great workbook! - My 5 year old loves this workbook. We do a couple pages a day and his handwriting is already getting so good. I love how the graphics and layout is so simple but still engaging. Not overstimulating like some other workbooks we've tried. Perfect addition to our homeschool setup!

Amazing workbook
I bought this book in addition to the preschool workbook of the same name to give my daughter some workbook activities to do alongside of homeschooling. I think the Brain Quest Kindergarten Workbook is an amazing book, especially for the price. You are getting over 300 pages of activities to help your child learn and practice their letters, numbers, shapes, and many many more. I do have to say that I probably wouldn't buy this for an existing Kindergartener, as the topics are things they probably already know and a little basic. My daughter is 3 and is able to switch between this book and the preschool book pretty interchangeably. I'm truly blown away by the quality of this workbook. I highly recommend to any parent. 01/20/2024 Edit My daughter is now halfway through Kindergarten and I have to agree with my previous review. I don't think this is a good workbook for an on track Kindergartener. I flipped through the whole book trying to find a page she could do and she is already past everything in this book. I think this book is best for a Kindergartener who is struggling or for preparing a child for Kindergarten. I still love this workbook though, and am now using it on my youngest daughter.

The good and the not so good points of this book.
My 5 year old, about to start Kindergarten, enjoys doing homework in this colorful book. All pages are perforated for easy rip-outs. At the beginning, I ripped out certain pages for her to do, or to bring to outings (eg. restaurants, appointments), but stopped doing that because since both front and back has exercises that may have to continue to the next page, it doesn't really follow well without a certain page or have it continue with another exercise, but missing the other continuation page that is still in the book. That would be a negative for me. I have purchased other curriculum books for my older child, which some books create exercises on the pages, that will end on one leaflet, instead of a page that will have part of a brand new exercise on the other side of the page. It sounds confusing, but hope it makes some sense. The book begins with alphabets, then goes on to other subjects such as math and science. There are limited sight words or reading exercises. If I remember correctly, there is at most 2 pages of sight words, and no more. Therefore, I have purchased other books for phonics/reading. The alphabet exercises, which comprise of tracing, and practice writing of the capital and lowercase letters, are somewhat repetitive. Repetivive in the sense that my child gets bored doing the same repetitive type of exercises. She didn't really find the tracing/writing too fun, even though after each alphabet exercise, there is a maze and a coloring activity. Imagine going through many letters with the same type of easy exercises. Even though it is great practice, it could get boring for me watching her repeat these types of activities over and over again. These were not as challenging for her, since she knows her alphabets, knows how to color, and finds the mazes easy to do. As a tip, do a little bit of alphabet, then skip to another part of the book. Then go back to the alphabet periodically to complete the alphabet. Overall, all the other pages spark her interest a lot with the illustrations and challenges. She has learned a lot from this book, and has had great reviews/practice in some areas that are somewhat familiar. A perforated award plus reward stickers are in the back of the book. It can be a great travel book too if one doesn't mind the bulkiness of it. It is quite large and heavy for a young child to carry around, but no problem to even do in the car on their lap.

Great lessons with a good balance of fun and intensity
I love this workbook! I bought this book to subsidize the "learning" my son is getting in his 3 hr kindergarten class. nice points - sections: the book is broken into portions like science, fun and games, Alphabets, Time and Money, etc - size: Enough content to jump around and keep the lessons interesting and not monotonous - colors: the book is in color and makes it fun to look through cons - I wish the book was either in a binder or had 3 holes for me to put completed pages in a separate binder. When you are in the beginning or end, the book gets hard to keep open. It does have perforated edges but we would like to keep the lessons for review. - Alphabet: I wish the alphabet was jumbled. Kids at this age sometimes gets "trapped" by memorization and not recognition. I have to jump around the alphabet section each day so they are not in order. Also it would be nice to have the lower case separated from the upper case - even if on the next page by flipping - so the kids can learn them separately. Over all, great purchase and I am glad I have this as a guide on what my son should be learning at his current age.
