A few driving tips
My girlfriend and I bought this to ensure we are not over the legal limit before driving. Here’s what the device taught us: you have to drink a lot to get to that point. And I mean a lot. Like, if you can read this without vomiting down your pants, you are good to drive. Here’s another test: if you can remember one of your mother’s names, then you are free and clear to drive.

Eats batteries
You're going to see a lot of air nine which means battery is dead. Always having to replace the batteries. They do not last long maybe five to six breathalyzer blows and that's it replace battery

Seems accurate
This one is a little more expensive but seems to be a lot more accurate than the other model I tried and doesn’t very when you blow into it numerous times

Great Fuel-Cell based breathalyzer (only for the first few blows)
****3 year update 11/19/2023****Was surprised I had to replace the AAA batteries a few months ago. Maybe that impacts the accuracy I'm not sure.Overall I still think it's a great investment for people who drink socially. If you've had a couple of glasses of wine with dinner, you'll be surprised by how high your bac level might be.That said, "how recent" you have had those drinks is crucial. Even in the instructions it says not to test until after 20 minutes have passed since your last drink. That's because the results will be skewed. THAT MEANS police breathalyzers will ALSO be inaccurate if you just finished the last swig of your whiskey the minute before you jumped in your car. Be mindful of that!-The device does bring up the fact that breathalyzer technology is not foolproof. These devices aren't THAT much less accurate than what a cop would have. It measures the same thing, the amount of alcohol in your stomach. It is NOT 100% like a blood draw would be.--ANYWAY, this review update is just to say that the device has been used countless times since my last review updates. When I'm hosting a party, sometimes we'll get the idea that we should drive to pick up food or go to a restaurant. Before we get in a car, or entertain the idea further, I pull this out and see if ANYONE can drive. Usually the answer is no. So we're avoiding the gamble of hurting ourselves or others or going to detox/jail for the night for a DUI. Be smart!-Last night (11/18) I brought it to our annual FriendsGiving and knew I had had a handful of drinks by the end of the night... So I checked my BAC. it was 0.122 okay gotta wait to go home. I drank some water and had some more food. Checked again 0.10 okay still gotta chill. An hour later I was at 0.88 so I continued to wait for about an hour before I was at 0.7I was well in control of my faculties and felt confident driving knowing that if I were pulled over, I would be under the limit and not go to jail. I'm 39 years old and have drank for 24 years of my life to some degree.... I can put away a lot of booze while staying conscious, lucid and coherent which makes it tough to gauge when I should NOT be driving.... If you know you're going to a gathering where you will be drinking more than someone should that's driving, it's ALWAYS best to take an uber/lyft/taxi.. Otherwise be sure you have this, having this device is a vital tool in ensuring that I'm taking control and being responsible for my actions.Stay safe and be responsible friends.****Update II - 01/22/2020Raised my 2 star rating to 4.The new sensor came and it behaves generally the same way which I believe is just the way this technology works.I tried my friend's $45 breathalyzer and it gave readings that were less accurate than the AlcoMate by quite a lot actually. I blew into the Revo and it showed me at .110 consistently where my friend's was showing .08 or .09So while this breathalyzer won't pick up a single beer that you drank 30 minutes ago.. It will be accurate when rating multiple drinks that are sitting in your stomach. (Which is why this is less reliable than I thought it'd be) that alcohol in your stomach obviously hasn't made it to your bloodstream yet, so checking alcohol via breathe isn't super accurate.Funny... I did use mouthwash a few days ago and after about 10 minutes I blew and it read .180!! yes! lol I hadn't drank at all that day or the day prior so I clearly wasn't drunk.... But if I blew for a cop I would've gone to jail lol.I'll be keeping my Revo and we use it at parties and stuff to see what are levels are at. After 3-4 beers in a couple hours, it picks up accurate numbers.**Update I - 01/15/2020Yesterday I had a few beers at a friends house. 2x8oz beers, low alcohol content maybe 4-5% each.an hour after my last beer I blew and got 0.000 oh okay I guess that's normal!.Got home, had a 2oz gin martini. Waited 20 minutes... blew... 0.000 well that's weird!!!.I took a shot of gin (this science experiment makes me feel funny) blew with alcohol on my breath... okay it reads 0.32 which makes sense cuz it's in my mouth still... Waited 5 minutes and blew .012 hmm that seems incredibly low considering how much alcohol should be in my stomach. I tried all sorts of blowing techniques - Hyperventilating, blowing the end of my breath, taking a big breath in before exhaling. They all came up low or near 0.000.I'm 36 years old, 6' tall 190lbs I'm overweight by about 15lbs. I don't metabolize THAT great lol there should be higher readings...... I e-mailed their support address, person responded next morning and asked me to call. I spoke to a gentleman who was very nice. He asked me to check the expiration on the back of the sensor module inside. It says 03/2021. He thought for a moment and asked if I could take a picture of that and that he would send a new sensor module as this one appears defective....That's disappointing for something that has been used maybe 15 times (it came with 4 blows on it already which is odd as it shouldn't have been a refurb) and is so expensive. My friends have keychain or other cheap $30 breathalyzers that they say are accurate... I was hoping this would last years without being inaccurate....Dropping my review from 5 start to 2 stars until I get the new module and see if that is more accurate for HOPEFULLY more than a few days.**Original Review:On the AlcoMate page they still advertise this for $200+ so what a steal from Amazon! It is smaller than I expected it to be. It's also very lightweight. Some might call it cheap feeling, but I like knowing it's not clunky and bulky. I ordered this to be able to gauge my inebriation throughout a night. I tend to get ahead of myself and would like some sobering facts to give me that "slow down!" message that I sometimes need....Well what better way to test it than pouring a martini!3 ounces if Gin, 1 of dry vermouth and a splash of olive juice. When the final sip was taken I set a timer for 20 minutes. I waited another 2 just for the sake of giving it time.I blew til the beeping stopped and I heard a click...Okay it saysCalculating....035...It worked!I waited another 20 minutes or so and blew again....... 030...Another 20 minutes.... 025! Perfect!.That is about what I'd expect!Going in the right direction!...As you can see this was a very non-scientific test. But it worked exactly as expected...The packaging came with 5 mouth pieces which will be fine for my use.It does warn not to use this to determine if you should drive. I agree. However I do think it's a good test of, "are you more drunk than you think you are?" that could give u a bit of a wakeup call when you think you're nearly sober. You may then say okay I'll not have that next drink or swap in a glass or two of water. All good things!..Be safe and I hope this review helps you in some way.
