Detailed review for 5th gen 4runner TRD Pro install
Before I review, I need to describe my specific needs and what I was trying to accomplish so that you can compare to your own needs and experiences and make a well-informed decision. When it comes to my own tech products, I find detailed reviews are the most helpful so that's what I hope to provide here. If you don't want to read all that, see the tl;dr at the end.I have a family of four and like to do cross-country road trips in which we take state highways, backroads and forest service roads. In these parts of the adventure, we camp anywhere from commercial KOAs to primitive campsites in the National Forests. Our trips also involve traveling on interstates sometimes, going into cities and towns, visiting attractions and restaurants, and staying in hotels. Given the wide spectrum of applications, we have to carry alot of gear. I've had lots of experience backpacking (where every ounce counts) and have mostly optimized the convenience-to-weight ratio of my gear for these trips (i.e., while there may be small incremental improvements to make, I won't be able to achieve any more drastic weight reductions and that is not the focus of my solution or this review). But with passengers, fuel, backcountry camping equipment, DC refrigerator, 500wh lithium battery, clothes, water, food, etc, we're pushing 1,000 payload. I have a 5th gen Toyota 4runner TRD Pro. It has Fox shocks with remote reservoirs--super soft, springy suspension that are great for off road. The TRD Pro also has a factory 1" lift in the front. The end result of this setup is that the back end of the 4runner sags significantly with all that weight. This in turn greatly reduces the effectiveness of steering input in the front of the truck. Under normal road conditions this is inconvenient. On interstate or highway travel, it can get downright dangerous: with high crosswinds across the Great Plains, or simply passing or being passed by a tractor trailer, it becomes really difficult to steer the correct track on a truck that already wanders a little naturally. I'd have to slow down until I had control over the steering every time the wind buffeted me from the side in order to avoid getting pushed out of the lane of travel. On some highways or interstates this was 60 or 65 mph, or even less in serious crosswinds. I recall one time in particular coming down the long winding road out of Alpine WY towards Idaho Falls ID on HWY 26, the crosswind gusts were so strong I could only travel at 50 mph or so due to the narrow/absent shoulder. I had a long line of traffic behind me by the time the road widened closer to town (no turnouts available either, yes I know how to use those unlike most Americans east of the Rockies), and a couple people expressed their appreciation by various hand gestures when they finally had the opportunity to pass. I think that's the moment I determined to address my issue of rear sag in the otherwise perfect 4runner Roadtripmobile. Also worth mentioning is that, while the 4runner performed admirably otherwise, the reduced steering effectiveness also made it a little more exciting while traveling those windy mountain roads with thousand-foot dropoffs near the edge of the road. While still manageable, it definitely increased the pucker factor for me at the wheel with my entire family aboard. As such, while still thoroughly enjoyable, I wasn't able to appreciate as much the "out for a cruise" aspect of our style of travel.I didn't like the idea of inflatable air bags because I didn't want to mess with an onboard compressor (i.e., more weight and complexity) or the more elaborate install. I found SumoSprings and researched the crap out of them. Everything SEEMED to be perfect for my needs but couldn't find much info for my situation specifically (as described above). So I bit the bullet, used some credit card rewards points on Amazon and bought them (rear only, the blue "1,000 lb" ones).Install was about as simple as one can get in these modern times. A competent mechanic with the right tools at hand could likely do it in 20 minutes. That means for me, of course, it took much longer, a couple hours, mostly due to getting the thing jacked up level and on the jack stands, finding the right tools, etc. The usual amateur delays. Bottom line, super easy install.First report: unloaded, normal driving. Barely any difference. If you really pound a bump or pothole you might notice it doesn't sink as low or bottom out like it might have before. I swear there is noticeably less body roll when taking sharp corners (something the super soft Fox shocks allow at highway speeds) but isn't a drastic change. This was one of the selling points for this product, that it wouldn't affect daily driving, and that held true for me aside from the aforementioned, slight improvements.Second report: the real deal, fully loaded! This week I got out all my gear for the first time this year to take my family eclipse chasing. It was a SUCCESS--we saw the total eclipse of 2024, in central Illinois! We ended up not even camping which was really just dumb luck that the best weather was a day trip away from home (I'd prepared to drive 1k miles or more if the weather close to home hadn't cooperated). Final determination is that the Sumo Springs make an AMAZING difference. Little-to-no sag in the back. Steering is totally normal. No bottoming out of the back end when you hit big bumps. And still, noticeably less body roll in the back, where all the weight is, when cornering. I can't say enough what a great value these things are! Perfectly solved my problem, and if I ever decide to remove them and go back to factory bump stops, it's a 30 min job to revert to original (or 120 if you're like me). If I EVER have any regrets, it's likely to be that I didn't get the black "1,400 lb" ones. But I suspect the "medium" duty blues will serve my needs just fine.Attaching 4 pics: first 2 are unloaded right and left (although the driveway sits slightly angled which is why one of them is contacting the axle) and the second two are loaded with ~600 lbs of gear (basically, everything but my family of four).tl;dr Amazing effectivene for such a simple product, best & easiest <$300 mod you'll ever do, especially to compensate for steering loss resulting from a saggy, loaded-down rear end.DISCLAIMER: I purchased this product with my own funds, and my glowing review reflects my authentic appreciation for the product. That said, if Super Springs wants to send me any free stuff as a result of my glowing review, I will GLADLY accept it since they obviously make good products! :)

Cushion for pulling
Did exactly as it was supposed to. Also helped to minimize swaying on sharp curves. Worth it!!

Forget airbags, I loaded heavy cargo and have no sag & a smooth ride
Took me quite a while bc I was stubborn and installed them at night and didn't lift my 4runner nor remove the wheels. For time and sanity don't do what I did. I need to adjust the one for as you see in 1 pic. Had to zip tie brake lines out of the way. Im very happy with the performance with driving and with truck under load. You can see how it would sag before I installed these. Now id never go with airbags over these bc of cost and maintenance required. The ratchet size are incorrect on the instructions so be aware. When I get to installing the front I'll post a review as well. I'll update to 5 Stars after a month of driving if no issues.

2020 4Runner w/KDSS - Essential upgrade
If you load your 4Runner when traveling or lifted the suspension, remember that the bump stops ‘move higher’ from the ground with the body. These bump stops are amazingly bigger. The difference in ride quality improves over speed bumps, uneven terrain and driveways. These will avoid your new suspension or loaded rig from bottoming out (compressing the springs and shocks too much) because of the increased weight or articulation.Replacing these was very easy. You could replace them without removing the wheels, but you will be more comfortable with the wheels removed.Shipment was crazy fast.Get these. You will be happy you did.

Exactly what I needed
The trailer tongue weight on our off road camper and additional cargo hadour 4 runner sitting 2"s lower in the rear end. I added the sumo blue bump stops and coil spring inserts. Now there is only a 1" change in ride height after loading the same camping equipment. Very pleased with this choice as we wanted to stay as close to the original suspension set up as possible and still venture off road as far as its original build is designed to handle.

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SELLER!
Broke after first time towing trailer. Trailer is within towing capacity and hitch weight of my vehicle. Seller insists manufacturer must authorize refund. Manufacturer says they have nothing to do with refunds. Seller is unwilling to refund money and accept replacement parts received under warranty claim. Seller is making up rules so they don't have to refund money.
