There are obviously more IDIOTS out there than even I thought? I read all of the reviews before I made my purchase but might just as well have not wasted my time in doing so?Not a good board finish? Flimsy inside? Different shaped pieces? Cost £47 is this guy real? Discolouration of some pieces? Poor cardboard packaging, what?Let me give you a real and positive review about this product. I ordered it with the longest delivery date to avoid the postage, it was to arrive between the 3rd and 5th, of January, no problem as it was not a Christmas present. It arrived Christmas eve morning the 24th, December 2016 at 11am, perfect although not expected, so well done the supplier.Having read all of the previous reviews (at the time all 9 of them) I scrutinised the board before opening it to reveal the pieces, it was perfect, very good joints, hinges, surface, corners and catches etc. The pieces were identical in size, colour etc. The green cardboard box the set was in was strong and well presented, who cares about the box you through away as long as the item inside is OK and ours was perfect. For under £30 you can not go wrong, looking forward to our first game.Anybody looking for a chess set at a very reasonable price, do not hesitate to purchase this one. Ignore the IDIOTS they just like making a fuss over nothing in the hope of a full refund, just like some passengers on a cruise liner?

Unlike the previous reviewer I had no problem ordering this product. It was well packed and delivered on time. The chess pieces are a nice finish and weight and look very inviting when on the opened board. The inside of the board is not as good a finish - rather flimsy green plasticky and not as good a fit for the pieces as it looks in the photos. Nevertheless, it does provide an easy storage/transport solution and for my 7 year old grandson for whom the set is intended, it will be an instant check to ensure that he has put all the pieces back when he finishes a game! Having looked at the other sets on Amazon I am satisfied with my purchase. This provides good value and will provide much enjoyment over the coming years.

Purchased this item as a decorative object, as part of a collection of furniture and nicknacks bought to tart up a somewhat spartan flat for sale. It's clearly not best quality, but it's perfectly presentable and looks much nicer than other sets sold with the board printed on the wooden box, that are marketed at higher prices in some high street stores.If you're looking for a premium, high quality set then you need to part with a lot more money (I know, I own one,) but if you just want a starter set, a kids' set, a spare e.g. for a caravan, or are otherwise wanting to buy on a budget - and you want something just a little nicer than a folding card board and plastic pieces - then this could be the product for you.

Love those pieces! Fully professional, and beautiful set. Those Węgiel Staunton pieces were used on most tournaments I played in Europe across last 20 years. Now I have mine, and I'm really delighted. I see only positives of that set+ regular tournament size (good to play with!)+ folding chessboard easy to store at home+ beautifly manufactured all wooden board and pieces+ clear white row names on sides - good for notes and analyzeJust what I was looking for! It's real pleasure to play with it. :)

Really pleased with this chess set. For the price both the board & pieces are really nice, it looks more expensive than it was. Like the storage for the pieces and the board had 2 solid clasps to keep it all in place

Good value. Nice looking and perfect size for young players.My 9 year old son loves it. The board can fold so it's easy to carry around.

Second one I have bought as a present. Like the quality of chess set very much but the cardboard packaging was poor. Never mind my grandson will not be keeping the box.

I should have been more observant when purchasing, but the shipping costs are expensive.Some of the pieces are poorly carved. The two white rooks in my set are carved differently, one smoother than the other, and the glue used to stick the top of the king to the rest of it has oozed out and is visible. Slight discoloration of my white queen too.The box states that no child labour was used in the making of the product. It's worrying that that has to be stated. Puts the product in a league that I wasn't expecting.All in all, not very impressed. I think there are better options out there given the price including postage. I'm almost certain that £47 can get you a better set.

A little more than I wanted to pay but seems to be worth it a nice size and the pieces are wood, have a nice feel, and weight. Quality seems to be good

I've had this for about a year now and I'm really glad I purchased it. The pieces could be a little heavier but it's not too noticeably light. I think some have retrofitted metal washers at the base to give it more weight but this requires tracking down some additional materials (incl. felt)The board is a great size, and the proportion of pieces to square size is perfect for casual play (not sure if it's regulation exactly) but it's exactly what I wanted out of this set. It looks nice enough to keep out on display and stores easily in a convenient size. Not the most portable set but it can easily be moved around for occasional games outside the house.

I purchased this chess set as a birthday present for my granddaughter. Its quality, considering the price, far exceeded my expectations. The board itself and the pieces were beautifully finished. The functionality of the folding board as a case was adequate. The set was even nicer than one I received for my 21st birthday over 50 years ago. I wish I had bought one for myself.

Beautiful set. The smell of the wood is lovely and the quality is very smooth and well-done. My husband and kids love this chess set. Thank you.
