Awesome product for rain catchment.
UPDATE:The washers failed in my diverter so I invented a way to not use them at all. It now seals and also diverts overflow but no longer makes use of the part of the system that is supposed to not catch the first so called dirty water. I could not tell that system helped much anyway.I hope they redesign this part of the system however. Our water gets dirty mostly from pollen and that system did not help for that.ORIGINAL REVIEW:I liked this product so much I blogged about it. You can get a nice clean install from the product. Our gutters fill with what I consider the worst case scenario for any system to filter, tiny fir needles.Add to that small grit, small sticks, huge amounts of pollen, and other junk and you have a tough mix to filter. Add water, and well, it just gets worse. This product does well with this but there is some maintinance as the points of the needle get caught in the screen. This is to be expected. Cleaning the unit is quick and easy. Most cleanings are just knocking the pile of needles off the screen. Some cleanings are more like remove and wash screen. Lift the cover and the screen pops out and you just hose it off. I have to pick about a dozen needles out of the screen also where we live. Pop it back in and go.Some water can splash out of the front open part during heavier rains or as the filter plugs. I have no issues with that as the unit is washing the screen and the vibrating leaf guard fingers. That means I have to clean it less!We have a wall of 60-90 foot high fir trees that this unit is battling against. Even still, cleaning is not super frequent. One does have to give consideration though, like is this the first rain and the gutters are loaded? Ya, I might have to clean it after the first use. After that though, a month might go by or longer. Think about a flat gritty roof under a dozen 60-90 foot high fir trees. Yes, that is challenging. Happy to have this unit on my side. This is an all in one unit that does everything you might attempt if you study up and plan a high end do it yourself version, which I considered. But if you consider your time valuable, and all the trial and error that happens with this sort of thing, then you know some serious time will be involved. I decided to spend the money on this and use my time elsewhere. I have had no problems with mine. It has seen well over 36,000 gallons a year and over 80 inches of rain a year! This is an Eco thing, and it is not just about saving money, it is about a way of life. This unit does the first flush, diverts, filters, it does it all. I had no leaks or problems.

Great rainwater diverter!
I love this device. The only issue I’m having is difficulty attaching to my 3in down spout. The top works fine. But the bottom adapter doesn’t fit and I’ve had a hard time finding an adapter that works.

Great product. Like the fact that I can control ...
Great product.Like the fact that I can control the flow of water when barrel is full. Had someone install it for me but it didn't take long. Please note, I was not compensated for this review.

Great Concept - Poor Execution
I purchased this first flush rain diverter because I like the way it looked. The one thing I didn't want was an ugly maze of pipes on the side of my house. I live in a neighborhood with a homeowners association and any solution I implement needs to be appealing not only to myself, but to the neighborhood as well. From a looks perspective this diverter fits the bill. I fits well, inline with my existing downspout and has a single outflow pipe to fill my rainwater tank. This diverter looked great and performed well for the first six to nine months. After that, I noticed that my tanks were not as full as they usually were, and before long they were empty even though we were in the summer rainy season here in Florida. I researched and found that the fiber washers were no longer doing their job and that they needed to be replaced. The problem that I have with this system is it requires too much maintenance. Replacement washers are ten dollars a pack. If you must replace them every nine to twelve months, you have a recurring expense of ten to fifteen dollars a year. Plus the added burden of having to remove and disassemble the system every year. It you calculate what you pay for water versus the annual expense of maintenance, you may find that this system never breaks even and probably for most homeowners, is an added yearly expense!

Beware: These must be taken down for maintenance and parts replacement every year or two
Like some of the others here, I bought a Clean Rain Ultra and it worked well for two years. But at that point it completely stopped functioning, and regular cleaning from the outside did not help. The whole unit had to be removed from the downspout and taken apart, in order to replace the hygroscopic washers inside the lower tube (which are what expand when exposed to water, to begin diverting water into your tank). Well, I did that once, receiving new washers by mail from the company, and the process of replacing them was not at all easy. And then after another year and a half, the diverter stopped working again, and so I have to remove the unit yet again from the downspout, and also await another new set of washers from the company. (I requested them two months ago and they have yet to arrive.) This is not a convenient, low-maintenance solution for rainwater collection. I wish I had not purchased it and invested the time and materials into installing it. If you are thinking about buying one of these units, beware!
