Stunning illustrations, definitely Millie's best book so far!
I have been a huge Adult Colouring fan for a while now, and out of all my books, this is one of my very top favourites! I was highly anticipating the arrival of Millie's 4th book. I purchased her 1st colouring book, Animal Kingdom a while back and was blown away by her stunning intricate nature themed images. Each page was a joy to colour and so my expectations were high for this new instalment. I am pleased to say it certainly did not disappoint. In my opinion, this book, is by far, Millie's best. The book itself is a paperback with a fold-out card cover, glue bound, and is the same size and shape of her previous books, once again, we have lovely gold-foiling accents on the front which gives this book a lovely appearance. Inside, the fold-out flap reveals a selection of scenery on a turquoise background which can be coloured if you wish. The paper again, is pure white and a great thickness. Images are double- sided and not perforated. I use Staedtler triplus fineliners on these pictures, as they are just great at getting into those fine details. No bleed through at all, and only a very small amount of shadowing if very dark colours or heavy pressure is used. Pencils work well and go on the page really smoothly. Blending and shading also works well. All alcohol based markers, such as Sharpie are not suitable, unless you don't mind sacrificing the images on the previous side. I highly recommend testing your chosen mediums somewhere at the back of the book, the images are so stunning, it would be such a shame to ruin them! There are a number of single and double page spreads in this book, the double spreads do go into the spine, however, you can get the book to lay quite flat, so this shouldn't be too much of a problem if you've got fine-tipped pens. The Pictures are just stunning and very intricate, you will certainly need good eyes and a good lamp! All images are based around nature but the images in this book have been specially selected by Millie due to their "curious" appearance or behaviours, hence the name. From the Duck-billed Platypus to the Malaryian Tapir, this book showcases so many animals you probably didn't even know existed! The book even includes a list of all the animals faetured, along with their latin names too- this is a big plus for those, who, like me, usually like to aim to use realistic colours- and now you can look them up with ease! And learn lots of interesting facts about them at the same time! The book, unlike the other titles, has no specific theme such as African or Tropical, in Curious Creatures, animals from all around the world are included, which gives this book plenty of variety, so your not likely to get bored quickly! Another plus, for some, is the fact that there are no words on the page inviting you to add your own embellishments, which is great for those who aren't great at drawing. Although, do not be dismayed! There is still plenty of space for you to add your own backgrounds etc. if you should wish. The images do tend to take quite a while to complete, a steady hand and good concentration levels are, I think, a requirement, so do bear this in mind before purchasing. There aren't many large, open spaces, Millie's style is always animals made out of highly intricate shapes and flowers, which I think is really clever. Great for those who love colouring patterns as well as nature. All in all, a fantastic book, Millie has surpassed my expectations in creating such a great adult colouring book, which is a joy to colour. Very relaxing and a real must-have for all adult colourists! Highly Recommended!!!

So many wonderful and detailed images to colour and easier to colour than her earlier books!
Once again another Millie Marotta book does not disappoint! I've bought every Millie Marotta book I can since I first discovered them and this book is just as great as the rest but with lots of new creatures to colour in. 'Curious Creatures' is all about animals, be they fish, birds, insects or mammals, and each page or double page spread contains lots of intricate designs which I just love to colour in.The book is the same size and thickness as her other books (or Johanna Basford's books),wider than A4 but shorter, and contains so many pages that even for full price you are getting a bargain in terms of how much there is to colour! Each page is crisp white and nice and thick enough to colour using pens although being double sided I'd always be careful not overdoing the amount of felt pens or gel pens you use in one spot. I've only use pencils in my book.Every picture in the book is a realistic outline of the real animal with lots of fun and detailed shapes inside it to colour in. Some of the images just have random shapes, while other animals are made from lots of leaves which just looks amazing! The animals really vary in this book and there's plenty I've never seen before. My favourites include the weed sea dragons, narwhal and the kiwi. Some of the images have extra details in them such as leaves while others have blank around them. I love the blank spaces as it gives me the chance to doodle in my own drawings and there's also a few pages at the back of the book for creating your own images which some people who enjoy drawing as well as colouring, like me, will love! One thing I've noticed which I think is an improvement on the first Millie Marotta book, Animal Kingdom, is the slight increase in the size of the shapes that make up the animals. It's not a drastic increase and there's still as much detail to colour in but the first book had such small shapes you couldn't always colour individual ones in easily with pencils (you'd need incredibly sharp pencils all the time). The start of the book features an introduction by Marotta which as always is nice to read and the back of the book has list of all the animals that feature in the book which is great as I didn't know what some of the birds were especially the mandarin duck.I really love this book. I've barely coloured in anything and I've already spent hours on this and I just love it! I can't say a bad thing about this book. Maybe it's a little tricky to get into the centre of the book especially when colouring in a double page spread, but the book's spine opens easily (might want to push/crack it open) and lies quite flat on a surface. It doesn't bother me at all. I've included some pictures including my own colouring in with pencils. This book is just great, I can't wait for the next one!

Lovely book, lovely designs
I have really become to love the Millie Marotta colouring books. Lots of lovely designs for colouring and the paper is great quality for using different mediums. I mostly use pencils but have lately been using fine tip colouring pens which also work well on this paper. I have just bought some water pencils and some water pens. The water pencils should be fine although I have not used water pens in it yet but I love this book. It's given me hours of pleasure along with a number of others in her range. I would definitely buy it for someone else. Good value for money.

Another Fab Colouring In Adventure
I have all of Millie's colouring in books. I love the fact that this one has some unusual animals in it. Paper quality and drawings top notch as usual. I can't really keep up with the rate at which this illustrator churns out the books, but I simply can't resist them. I think she is such a talented drawer, I wish I was that talented. This makes a great present for Mother's Day or a Birthday.

Very curious creatures...
This is a beautiful book, a real keep-sake when completed. My only gripe is the random shapes on the creatures bodies, which if there are more than one on the page, tend to differ in design - maybe this is me needing consistency when I colour and as true to life as I can get it.I have had fun looking at pictures of these creatures on-line, to get an idea of what they actually look like and then colouring them in.I haven't personally found the paper quality to be a problem, as I only use pencils. A very pleasing result when finished.

Another winner from the Marotta series
This book is a continuation of the quality coloring books for adults. I like the change of color for the inside front and back covers. They are now a lovely shade of aqua. Although the front cover has foil accents, no photo inside has any. The pages are a strong white paper with black drawings. This is a collection of land, sea and air creatures. I particularly like the pair of narwhales. You will not be bored with this newest addition.
