2011 collection, the first ever retrospective from Japanese guitar pioneer Takeshi Terauchi. This release charts his career from the 1960's Surf boom, via groovy instrumentals, through to '70's fuzz freak-outs and Funk Rock. This compilation was collated by Honest Jon's Records' resident Japan-ist, Howard Williams, the man behind the "Killing Melody" Japanese gangster soundtrack compilation and the Japonica blog and club night.

cool and fun
I bought this because it showed up on the recommendations and thought it might be fun to check out. It's great. While there are a few songs I don't care for, overall this is great. And the info in the booklet is interesting. If you like surf music from the early 60s you will enjoy this. It's fun to get to hear a little different take on the style.

Vintage japanese surf
Great instrumental surf music with song titles unpronounceable to a westerner. Exelent music listen to while tinkering in your garage with your hotrod. I recommend it to anyone whom enjoys the surf sound.

Very enjoyable.
Highly recommended to Dick Dale fans who just found a twenty dollar bill. Lots of fun to listen too, great guitar sound with a tight band. (Note: I don't give stuff five stars unless I think it's some sort of undeniable classic. This may prove so with time-- but my gut says it's not quite up to Dale's best stuff, for example. But very enjoyable).

Doom origato Mr. Awesome guitar playing guy
I rolled the dice on this cause I was looking for something different and I found it. These guys have unbelievable chops with the whole surf/garage/instrumental vibe thingy. If you like Godzilla movies, you could almost imagine these songs being in those movies. Really cool and different. Get it or I'll Kung Fu your face off!

Electric guitar masterpiece-greater than Hendrix!
Unbelievably beautiful album. Soaring fuzz guitar against mystical organ music, psychedelic freak outs, Terauchi thrashing the strings and bending tremolo simultaneously-everything you would ever want to do on an electric guitar is right here. Unlike some other compilations of Terry's work, this collection is brave enough to move beyond his beat/surf period to explore his really wild work in the early 1970s, which is more a Japanese version of krautrock (think Can mixed with Popol Vuh) than anything else. I could listen to this kind of 1970s music forever-nothing else has surpassed it since in my opinion.

The long overdue worldwide CD release of Japan's living legend on Eleki Guitar!
Since he formed his first Blue Jeans in 1963, Japan's foremost rock guitarist Takeshi "Terry" Terauchi has been "God of Eleki(electric guitar)". And he is still going strong and keeps on touring and recording. Many of Terry's CDs have been released here in Japan mainly on King Records (otherwise on EMI Japan, Teichiku and Terry's own Teraon label)but this is a long-awaited worldwide release on Ace Records. Howard Williams's compilation is simply AMAZING - He selected some Japanesque tunes NEVER AVAILABLE ON CD BEFORE!!Even though there are some tracks influenced on Jimi Hendrix and The Kinks, Terry's main influence on his giutar playing is from Japanese traditional music. Many of the tunes on this CD are based on Japanese trad songs, nostalgic songs, Enka and even Rokyoku(Naniwa Bushi). His Shamisen-like distinctive playing style is called "Terauchi Bushi".The 13th track "Ake Garasu" and the 16th track "Meigetsu Akagi Yama" were also recorded in 2011 for the Japanese Enka history album "Nippon Kayoshi - Shinzui:Seicho Terauchi Bushi(King KICX805)" and performed live in concert. But Terry and his Japanese-spirited guitar playing have been unfairly underrated, ignored and scorned by Japan's rock critics and historians. Most of Japanese rock fans think every rock guitarist should be like Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton - not like Takeshi Terauchi. Most of Japanese rock media (and even King Records who own the overrated 70's Japanese rock/folk label Bellwood) think the mid- to late-60's GS(Group Sounds) bands such as Terry's Blue Jeans and The Bunnys were not rock but merely Kayokyoku(Japanese language MOR pop) and the REAL Japanese rock began in 1970 when most of GS bands were disbanded!!I think this is a long overdue and awaited CD release for rock guitar fans around the world. Enjoy these extremely mind-blowing performances from Japan's living legend on Eleki Guitar!!

Great tunes, CD sounds a bit off
I'd listened to some of this guys stuff online and so bought the CD. On first playing it sounds slightly flat or off key as if its playing too slow. I don't think it's my CD player

Stellar service.
CD arrived nice and early and very securely packaged. As for the music? This may be the best guitar work I’ve ever heard. Western ears should do themselves a favour and pin around this stuff.
