Penpal Paperback – 11 July 2012

I am currently reinvested in this story as I’ve bought the novel and just finished it today.I haven’t read it for ten years since it was on Reddit in r/NoSleep but I’d be lying if it hasn’t lived in my brain for that decade, I have thought about this story every month ever since and remembered it had become a book I never remembered to purchase.This story is excellent and makes you think so much and connect so many parts of this puzzle. The story is one that you never want to end and much like the narrator, you hide in the uncertainty as you never want to face what is actually happening.I enjoyed this story so much this second time round after ten years, and would recommend it to everyone.It will evoke a cavalcade of emotions that will be forever etched into your mind. Amazing.

Just over 200 pages so it's a short and easy read. Keeps you gripped from the start and the mysterious events keep you turning the page. When you reach the end, you're left with more questions than answers.Overall, a very creepy book.

This book was incredible. I read it in a day, could not put it down. The knot it leaves in the readers stomach grows as the eerie, unsettling story unfolds.It's an upsetting read but the story is so well written and the detail is incredible. The chatacters are so likable and you come to love the two boys. Their friendship is beautiful.This is my favourite book of the year so far.Please check trigger warnings before reading.This one floored me.

I think for me this book is a 3.5/5.It doesn't quite do enough to merit a 4 star though in my eyes, despite me enjoying this book and not regretting the purchase at all,especially for the price.I don't want to reveal the story or plot to ruin it for the reader, so I'll try not to give much away.... This story feels stretched, I feel the writer initially had this maybe as a short story and tried to fill it to make a novel. The story remains creepy throughout and I didn't get tired of reading it, perhaps the way the book narrates seemingly jumping years between chapters then back again is frustrating for the reader as I feel the writer is attempting to stretch the narrative. The actual storyline itself is quiet enjoyable to read and keeps the pages turning but perhaps the idea of this novel is better than the execution with the ending somewhat unsatisfactory and rather falls flat with little explanation to certain characters motivations. Although it could be argued that this is part of the beauty of the book, often as the reader we feel we need all the answers and maybe we do not.I don't regret the purchase at all,it is an enjoyable book perhaps my review is overly critical because I felt the story promised more than it ultimately delivered.

Amazingly written, brilliant story. I really enjoyed reading this. In fact unfinished it in 1 day.. Thoroughly recommend. I fell in love with all the characters.

Broke my heart, the imagery in the reveal chapter made me feel sick, brilliant

I have just finished this book. A couple of months ago I picked up a book that reignited my lust for reading. I have finished about 10 books since then. I usually rush to finish a book so i can start on the next. This book is the one that killed my period of reading, simply because I dont believe there will be a better book than this. I have heard tales of the books that "i will drag out and save, because i do not want it to end", but have never experienced this until now.This is an extraordinary book. The author, although i have done little research seems as mysterious as his creation of this book. Everything about it is perfect. It is slow, long drawn and incredible creepy. Creepy in the best good-old way, as nothing mentioned in this book is a coincidence after all.I would whole-heartedly recommend this book to anyone reading this review. Of all the books that I've read this one is the winner. The author offers this as a real story but I don't want to know. I wanted to put the book down and not know the end, because the mystery was simply enough. The atmosphere in this book is the best thing I've ever known.Amazing book. Read it!
