Q: Do i need to play the previous ones to understand what is going on in this one?

No, you don't, but it would help a lot. There are a lot of new mechanics that weren't in previous games. So far it's my favorite game in the franchise (have played all of them).

Q: Can you play this on 2ds

Yes a 2ds can play all 3ds games minus the 3D

Q: can you turn off blood

You can turn it down. However, if you're asking because you intend buying for someone too young for cartoony blood, the chances are they'll struggle with the game. It's not Mario.

Q: Is this game hard? I keep hearing stories that it's like Dark Souls.

It is not dark soulish hard since you can coop with up to 4 other hunters, it is advisable you play online coop as this is where the game really shines, there's abit of grind to upgrade your gear but hey thats the fun of it!
