yes, a bright white typical of porcelaine

Q: Where are these made?

They are porcelain and quite nice. They don't scratch and don't get marked up with silverware. They are fine in the dishwasher and microwave. Haven't tried them in the oven yet, but I suspect they would perform well there, too. Very handy size for all sorts of things -- individual portions of melted butter, tartar sauce , soy sauce, mayonnaise, etc. Also use them for mise en place while cooking. Love these little dishes!

Q: Why do all these dishes come scratched?

I don’t know.i assume its the packaging. Mine aren’t scratched
