Philips GC024/10 IronCare Water Descale Filter for Ironing

I hoping this keeps my new iron from going brown , I've been using it for two weeks and the cartridge is beginning to turn brown , so it looks like it is doing what it said it would . And keeping my ironCalc free 😀

We live in a very hard water area and even the best irons with so-called "self de-scaling" last about 3 months before starting to scale up and are useless after 4-5 months. We bought this in February this year and have only just replaced the first filter. The new iron bought at the same time (very cheap from Lidl) is showing no signs of any limescale build-up and works like new. In the longer term this filter will save us a fortune as well as avoiding the brown stains and white grit on the clothes. As long as you remember to refill as soon as you pour the last water into the iron, it will always be ready for use as it takes about 2 minutes for the new water to go through the filter.

Well packaged, just not sure about the cartridge though, thought it should have been blue! On opening the sealed packaging the colour of the cartridge was a funny grey and the inside of the sealed packaging was wet. Not sure why!!!!!

I've just had one of these delivered following the purchase of a new Philips Steam Generator Iron and because we live in a fairly hard water area.The jug seems fine but the sealed filter included was damp when opened and the crystals have turned brown, so it has been packed up and is on it's way back. I have asked for a replacement and will update this review once I have seen if the crystals are actually blue in the next one.Obviously a problem batch in circulation.Updated: 12th February 2018So I have been talking on and off with Philips Customer Service about the filters because the replacement Amazon sent had the same issue (brown crystals). Philips sent me a 3 pack of filters to try and they were all brown, so they sent me another box and yes, you guessed it, they were all brown too.So I have given up and returned the filter and jug for a refund. There is clearly a production issue that is affecting the filter cartridges so I would avoid the Philips GC025/00 IronCare Anti Scale Cartridge, Pack of 3 as well. More photos added.

I like the concept behind this product, having worked my way through a succession of irons over the years due to excess scale. The size of the filter jug and ease of use is both convenient and will hopefully prolong the irons life span. However, like many other reviews on this product, the filter cartridge crystals were already brown when I opened it. That is; the cartridge requires changing as they are suppose to be bright blue as shown in the photo. Either this product (the filter cartridge) is defective or it is being mis-sold / falsely advertised. Either way, Amazon need to take Philips to task over this blatant defective / falsely advertised product.

Really good. I think some of the reviews have either being doing it wrong or got a dud. Ours works perfectly and saves us a fortune in deionised water.

Still going strong after seven years and the iron is too!Simple and has proven effective. The initial cartridge lasted four months and there is no sign of limescale on the iron despite hard water in our area which has historically wrecked our irons after two years.

I wish I had read the posted reviews before purchasing. Like other buyers, my filter was not blue. It was mostly light brown with a few grains of blue. The filter was wet when I took it out of the packaging it came in. Once the filter turns brown you are suppose to replace it. There definitely must be an issue with their filter production / packaging. Item was returned.
