Review: couldn't live up to the hype - 🌟🌟🌟🌟 The main reason I picked up this book was because it was compared to Sally Rooney's works, and let me tell you, the cover was absolutely stunning. I was really drawn to the concept and understood why people were making the comparison. However, I found the execution to be quite disappointing. Firstly, despite the title suggesting a focus on Cleo and Frank, the story also revolved around a bunch of other characters. Normally, that wouldn't be a problem for me, especially with Sally Rooney's books where even the side characters are captivating. But in this case, I just got bored with all of them. Now, let's shift the focus to some positive aspects. While the book fell short for me overall, there were a few redeeming qualities that I appreciated. The author's writing style had moments of beauty and elegance, particularly in descriptive passages. There were times when the prose managed to evoke a strong sense of atmosphere and emotion, which added depth to certain scenes. Additionally, the book touched on some interesting topics. It explored themes of love, identity, and the complexities of human relationships. Although the exploration of these themes lacked depth and felt superficial at times, there were still moments of insight and thought-provoking observations. The author's attempt to tackle these issues deserves some credit. However, overall, the book failed to live up to the hype and the comparisons to Sally Rooney's works. The characters felt selfish and immature, and the story lacked the depth and consistency I had hoped for. It left me wanting more, as it failed to delve into the intriguing topics it introduced. In conclusion, while the stunning cover and intriguing concept initially drew me in, this book ultimately fell short of my expectations. It had its moments of beautiful writing and touched upon interesting themes, but it failed to deliver a cohesive and satisfying reading experience. Ultimately, it was a messy book that couldn't live up to the hype.

Not worth the hype
I am halfway thru the book. And guess what not worth the hype I want to leave it and not finish reading it. It's about everyone but cleo and frank.

Delivered in excellent condition.
The book came in an excellent condition. However, it’s the first book that I had to put down. I just couldn’t bring myself to finish it. There’s no story line. No theme. Just random characters and their lives. It’s chaotic. I give the book a solid 0.5 outta 5 stars.

Devastatingly good
Coco mellors knows how to write! No doubt about it. It was so amazingly beautiful in the beginning and as the story went it kinda made me depressed. Oh how I hated the characters! And I guess it all worked out in the end. I loved loved Santiago ❤️

1) Short Verdict 🗽💔 A sleek, compulsively readable New-York novel about desire, money, and the stories we tell ourselves. Mellors balances romance and wreckage with an ensemble-driven, “no neat endings” energy — intoxicating and bruising at once. Los Angeles Times 2) Literary Analysis (Themes, Style, Form) 🔎 Themes: love vs. self-preservation; class and privilege; addiction and mental health; found-family vs. blood ties. Form & POV: Though centered on Cleo (a 24-year-old British artist) and Frank (a forty-something ad man), chapters rotate through friends and family; two striking interludes switch to first-person from Eleanor’s perspective, reframing the marriage from the outside. This ensemble structure widens the novel’s moral lens and keeps the narrative aerated and propulsive. shelf-awareness.com La Crosse Public Library Style: Crisp dialogue, snapshot scenes, and mood-rich city detail; the prose favors vibe and character over plot machinery, by design. Los Angeles Times 3) Placement in Literature & Culture 📚 A buzzy debut that sat squarely in the zeitgeist (TikTok/Bookstagram chatter) while earning a broadly Positive critical consensus. File it near contemporary relationship fiction that probes intimacy without tidy resolutions. Book Marks Washington Square News 4) Trivia & Background 🗂️ Tagline: The UK campaign leaned on the Sunday Times hook “the hottest new book.” The Times UK paperback: 2 February 2023, Fourth Estate/HarperCollins (ISBN 000842179X; 384 pp). Amazon Waterstones US publication: Bloomsbury (hardcover Feb 2022); widely reviewed (LA Times). Los Angeles Times 5) Final Take & Rating 🏁⭐ A glittering, many-voiced portrait of love’s aftershocks — tender, cutting, and very hard to put down. Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
