Baby Neptune [DVD]

calming, captivating and informative for little ones
This DVD is about water and shows animated images and real life films of water (beach, rivers, rain, garden hoses, etc), with gentle music, which makes the show calming. There is no story or plot and no talking, apart from one or two words said by young children to introduce what is going to be shown next. I think this absence of a plot (variety) is a clever way to keep young children focused. So, children and also puppets act as "presenters" and both captivate the attention of little children. I bought this DVD for my twins when they were 9 months old and now at 13 months they still enjoy watching it very much. They have not got bored of it yet! It is now a must see (we have 3 different Baby Einstein DVDs and show a different one each time) before their morning nap. I avoid putting the boys in front of the television more than 30 minutes a day (which is the length of these DVDs), but if for some reason they are unsettled and I am unable to calm them both down, I put one of the Baby Einstein DVDs on and they immediately calm down. I think this particular DVD is informative for children who are at the age of understanding what is said - so, they can learn what rivers, oceans, beaches, rain drops, etc are. Since it is only a 30 minute show I think it should be a little cheaper, hence I only rate it with 4 stars.

Best Baby Einstein, I think
This DVD has well earned its 5 stars. I can't rate the Baby Einstein DVD's enough, they are without doubt a godsend. Whatever time of day, whatever mood my little boy Joe is in, he is absolutely captivated by the images and music that goes with them. Although my little man is an extremely active baby (now 7 months, DVD purchased at 5 months)he sits very still in his rocker chair and can't take his eyes off the screen! I do think that out of the 3 DVD's I purchased (the other two being Baby Mozart and Baby Beethoven), this is the best, both for the quality of the 'show' and Joe seems to just absolutely love it! There is a combination of puppet shows, motion toys in action to music, and real-life videos of rivers, the sea, whales and dolphins, etc. The puppet scenes really make me and my partner (!) chuckle each time it's played (and we're now on the 50th time at least!)We love the duck! In places, it might seem amateur-ish, but don't be fooled... just watch your baby's face as they watch the DVD! The 'show' is edited very well, so that each clip is just the right length to keep holding babe's captivation and interest. I love this DVD because it means I can have a half an hour to myself, whether it's doing housework or just having a rest and cup of tea for a few minutes! Plus I also find it really useful as part of Joe's bedtime routine as it calms him down after a hard days play, and seems to unwind him before his bath and bed. I can see Joe continuing to watch this DVD for some time to come, and so for all these reasons I highly recommend Baby Neptune which is fantastic value for money.

A good addition to our Baby Einstein collection
Being a fan of the Baby Einstein CDs i thought i would try the DVDs especially after reading the reviews on here. My daughter sat through Baby Neptune from start to finish the first time i put it on when she was 13 weeks old. Just the right length and a good balance between animation and real life scenery. A good way to keep her entertained for half hour or so and i'm sure she will appreciate it more the older she gets. Was advised against TV/DVDs by my health visitor but don't see the harm as long as you are interacting together whilst watching it. A good way to help your baby understand what they are looking at.'My Baby Einstein Album' on CD comes with a bonus read along DVD which she really loves. Includes an Old Mcdonald sing along which she particularly enjoys. Good value for money and would also recommend.

Bad quality pictures but make your baby laugh
I bought this DVD based on the good review it received. My son was 4.5 months old at the time I bought it. To be honest the quality of the DVD is not good at all - it shows a few scenes of water plus some puppets shows. When first watch you really feel that you are ripped off but bear in mind that this is not for adult but babies...I also bought Baby Mozart DVD but I find Baby Neptune better - there're only puppet shows in Baby Mozart.I rate this 5 star as my baby really likes it, he squeals when he sees laughing babies & some water scenes and smiles at the puppets. When he watches alone, the repeat playing function is useful when you are busy with your housework. You can also watch with your baby as the themes are introducing water so it's kind of educational. I would recommend this.

It works!
I was sceptical about using tv/DVD to occupy my daughter whilst I had some hands free time to get on with the chores however this has been a god send. Baby Neptune is now part of her routine, it is 20mins or so of time she can sit and watch images and listen to classical music where she is not being held and spends the whole time blowing bubbles, kicking her legs and screeching, I guess you would call it baby 'me time'!! It allows me to prepare the bath/tea or whatever other chore needs to be done. Although this says from 6 months my daughter has been watching it daily from 3months. I wholeheartedly recommend this DVD - never thought I would say that but there we go!

OK
This video is ok -I suppose it might interest your child or not and someone else's review probably can't predict that. My son is 10 months old and has a few baby einstein products including the baby gym with the same underwater theme and music. Despite the music being familiar he just didn't get interested in this. It's the sort of thing we'd only ever use for short bursts and I'm afraid he prefers some of the new ipad apps more -sparkabilities, and ladybird apps.

Gives you time!
Generally good range of videos. Can hold my babies attention for 15 mins whilst I tidy the kitchen without feeling guilty that she's not learning anything. Animal one has been the most interesting to her.

My baby's favourite Baby Einstein dvd
I purchased four Baby Einstein DVDs. This one is my baby's favourite - she was 4 months old when she first watched it. Lots of varying images of water and sea animals. Takes a bit long to get started though, the opening credits have to roll twice before it gets going, not great when a baby is waiting for it to start!
