A great game from the makers of Fire Emblem
It's always good to see Nintendo come up with new characters and game concepts - and it's a shame when those games never sell as well as Mario and the like. Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. was developed by Intelligent Systems, who make the Fire Emblem and Advance Wars games. If you're already a fan of those games, you'll find lots to enjoy here. It's an odd duck of a game. The art style is reminiscent of comic strips, and the characters are ripped straight out of American literature, in a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen kind of way. The main problem might be how the difficulty is balanced. It's easy for players to pick up, as there's not much micromanagement between battles. However, it's easy to run into trouble during the levels and be overwhelmed by enemies. Still, when you obtain more fighters and weaponry, the game encourages you to replay old levels, which gains you more medals to unlock further weapons. Since the levels are generally well-designed with many secrets to uncover, this isn't much of a chore. There's a multiplayer mode too (which I haven't been able to try yet) and Streetpass capability (ditto) where you can earn more medals to help with the difficulty. It's a great little game, one I wish more people would talk about. Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. should be a cult classic.

Excellent turn based for a budget.
If you have spent (too) much time with Fire Emblem or you are just looking for something a bit more "lite" then this little gem will keep you for a dozen hours. You get an interesting steampunk setting with an Over The Shoulder 3rd person camera and controls but squad turn-based action, a bit like the modern xcom games but the camera much closer and direct control of the character instead of the traditional command interface. For the purpose of this game and challenge it works! The game doesn't take itself too seriously and that's perfect for what it is. If you find it in any kind of medium-low single digit price get it without a second thought. Obviously dont expect Fire emblem or bravely default production quality.I would wait until my child is 10 before letting them play, but no need to wait until they are 12 years old. Its just PEGI ratings going from 7+ straight to 12+

Good strategy game, awesome price.
I'm relatively new 3DS owner and I never heard about this game. When I saw gameplay and cheap price I immediately bought this game. Played the game for 5 hours and I really like it. Good graphics,Gameplay is like Valkyria Chronicles with X-Com. It's turn based and you play in 3rd person view. Story is goofy, but not bad at all. It's must buy for every strategy, rpg fan especially for this price.

A decent new IP from Nintendo
Doesn't quite reach the heights of Fire Emblem but it is an exciting new adventure from Nintendo. The positives is that the game has a great art style, is thoroughly good looking from beginning to end. In true Nintendo fashion, the game is full of colourful and quirky characters that you will fall in love with from the Not so Cowardly Lion from Wizard of Oz to Tom Sawyer. Unfortunately they are not that balanced so some will be quite clearly superior to others. It has an innovative new movement systems for Strategy RPGs that uses your steam that is fun but clearly favours more defensive play, going in all guns blazing won't get you far.The maps in this game are well designed that take advantage of all the movement options of the different characters. The Lion for instance can jump so there are always shortcuts you can take with him.Customisation is sadly pretty limited for an RPG but what there is of it, is fun. While not really a negative, the game is pretty relentless when it comes to difficulty, This is not a game for beginners to the genre. I can't help but think that sometimes the game was unfair with Monsters hidden behind corners that I could never have seen coming. It feels cheap to lose half your health when you make a mistake you could never have prevented. This feeds into another problem I had with the game, You never have an overhead view of the map which makes it difficult to strategize in a strategy game. While I have said I much I love the Art Style, my one problem with it is that the enemy design is rather mediocre. None of them really stand out to me as good and some of them blend into each other so much that I found it difficult to tell the difference between them. I'd expect better from Nintendo.A common complain of the game is that the enemies turn takes too long to complete. While the waiting time is certainly a little longer than usual for these sorts of games, I rarely thought it was excessive. Regardless, Nintendo have released an update that speeds up the enemies turns. It's a good game with colourful characters, an innovative new movement system and a great art style and but the lack of overhead view makes it difficult to strategize and results in what I would consider to be cheap hits from enemies that ultimately slows the pace of the game down.

This is an awesome turn-based-steampunk themed-combat game
This is an awesome turn-based-steampunk themed-combat game. Your team of 4 (characters are varied as are a range of weapons) enter each mission/level at different locations to fight the alien invaders. Each mission/level is varied and calls for different approaches to win the fight.Made by the excellent people from Intelligent systems (Paper Mario, Fire emblem and Advance wars). It is great to see a new game and hopefully a new franchise! Starts off easy enough to break you in and familiarize you with the turn based combat, but soon steps up the challenge, and each level brings new characters with new abilities. An original designed game. Only one or two of the characters are grating, but most are very likable with unique weapons that are great to try out in the next fight. This game provided a great challenge and was addictive all the way through. Gave me around 35 hours of play, and is very repayable too. Would highly recommend as a top quality, addictive, original game!

What I expected
I ordered this game possibly used since it didn't come with a case just came in a plastic sleeve. For being a possibly used game it's in perfect condition & greatly appreciate that. Now for the gameplay the game really makes you think & plan ahead truthfully. Reason being the game is a third person tactical shooter. You are only allowed to move a few steps, attack a limited amount of time & etc. Everything is done in third person. I would say what makes the game hard is that one mistake could cost you the whole level. You really have to think about how you move & attack. The setting is well a steampunk planet earth & Abraham Lincoln is president of the united states. (which I will throw this out here that steam punk Abraham Lincoln is epic (well in my opinion). You work under Abraham Lincoln to pretty much save the world from an alien invasion. The game is created by Nintendo & Intelligent Systems (they have worked on numerous games with Nintendo & especially the fire emblem games). If you have the fire emblem amiibo's of Robin, Marth, Ike, & Lucina. You can get these characters added to the party roster.I would have to say what makes the game unique the the steampunk setting & the gameplay. I have never played a third person tactical shooter before but the gameplay is fun despite being challenging. In my opinion this game is pretty much extremely underrated & highly recommend it if you are into tactical games where every decision/move counts.

Underrated game
Intelligence systems made this game, it's no fire emblem but this game is definitely fire tho. Gameplay is fun and smooth and the voice acting is top notch. Fire emblem amiibo support is a dream come true too. If you got and Ike amiibo you definitely don't want to miss out on this experience.
