Very interesting
I really enjoyed reading Helen Parrott's book. It's well written and illustrated and contains lots of essential information for artists who are just starting their Textile Art journey. I admit I expected a bit more, probably through my own misunderstanding of what the book offered. 'A bit more' means going beyond the very basic first steps in mark-making. Nevertheless, I would recommend this book to all new textile artists and even to painters, etc. I'm glad I bought it and I will probably go back to it from time to time. A four-star rating in this case means 'I really like it'.

INSPIRING BOOK
Exciting for anyone who needs encouragement to start creating....anyonewho tends to be too bothered about doing things 'properly'.This book encourages you to make marks and develop and just enjoy theprocess. There are approaches in this book which I can explore with my grandchildren becauselooking at pattern, shape and texture is basic to us from early childhood onwards...butso often this way of looking at our surroundings is lost. The book would be great for anyone wanting visual stimulation, from newcomers to skilledcreators, and not just in Textile Art.A well-produced book.

Join Helen on her journey of developing complete textile art
Very much enjoyed this book. It is a recommended read on my course and gives good information about developing embroidery ideas through the use of sketchbooks and sampling. A really useful book for my library.

This is a lovely production, love the soft tactile cover.
Lovely production, love the soft tactile cover. Lots of excellent photos. I was hoping for a wider range of examples of work, perhaps more experimental pieces. Not quite sure those pages on printmaking were necessary, except for those printing and stitching onto the fabric maybe? I wanted a book that might help Inspire more experimental approaches to hand quilting more traditional quilts.

A useful book for those starting out
As a textile artist myself I found this useful as a teaching aid but it offers very little in the way of new insights into the art form. A good guide to some techniques and how to manipulate them.

An excellent approach to the subject of textile mark-making
If you are interested in stitch and design this is a very interesting book. I don't think it's the ideal book for a beginner but, for anyone already hooked, it's a fascinating look at mark-making for the would-be textile artist. There are lots of useful hints and a good look at the processes Helen uses in her own work.

amazing!
This book has some amazing pictures of textile art. All of the patterns are well explained and instructions given in clear concise language. It has inspired me to have a go and I can't wait to get started. The photographs show clearly what can be achieved and with some practice the results are very pleasing.
