Very well made and sturdy nest box.
Well this nest box just arrived and I am very pleased with it. I have bought this as a birthday present for my mum, and I have a camera on order to go with it.The box is nicely made out of cedar which is naturally weatherproof and does not need treating. This is the best choice as treated timbers can be harmful to birds or discourage them from using the box. The timber is surprisingly thick and well constructed giving the feeling that this is very well made and will last a long time. The entrance hole is fitted with a metal ring which prevent mice, rats or squirrels from gnawing at the edges to enlarge the hole to get at the eggs/chicks. It also limits the entrance, letting only small birds such as tits use the box. A sturdy hinge is fitted at the back of the roof, as is a metal edged hole for hanging the box. There is also a small hole at the back to allow the camera cable out without it getting pinched under the lid. A metal bracket is attached to the inside of the roof lid for mounting the camera which will make life easier. Finally, there is a hole on one side of the box covered with a Perspex window. This is intended to let light in to the camera. For some reason, this is attached by a single screw and is clearly designed so that it can be rotated away from the hole - I just don't know why!The only negative thing I have to say about this nest box is that for some reason, the hinged lid is screwed down. Why have a hinge enabling easy access, if you are going to use screws to close it and prevent easy access? A simple hooked catch would have made more sense.Apart from that one minor negative, I think this is a great product and I am really happy with my purchase.

A well made box (I slightly modified mine).
The media could not be loaded. I purchased one of these for my wife in February 2015, after buying her a camera for Christmas the year before. I'm ashamed to say that it took me until May 2018 to install it!The box and its fittings are sturdy and well made, and the camera clip is well positioned so as to be out of the way, but convenient for getting the camera angle just right. The perspex window allows plenty of light through in order to get a clear camera shot.I made a couple of changes to the box before installation:I have noticed that boxes mounted with just one screw can move in high winds, so I also fitted a right-angled bracket to the underside of the box.The bracket was also handy for fitting the excess cable to.The cable slot at the back of the box was not convenient for flush fitting to a wall, as the cables would cause an obstruction. Instead, I made a small slot in the side of the box for the main cable, and housed all of the plugs etc. on the underside of the lid. The bracket fitted to the lid was ideal for slotting a cable tie through for securing the wires and plugs (see photos). This also keeps the plugs protected from the elements. We have had boxes hung for years before a bird has nested in one. This one is quite the des. res. so we are hoping for something to happen a bit sooner!Update on 19th May 2019: A nest with 7 eggs so far and plenty of activity (see photos).Update on 5th June 2019: Baby blue tits being fed (see video).

Watch the Birdy!
I bought this for my dad for a birthday present and he really liked it. It made a nice change from the usual socks and chocolate and he went straight outside to put it up.The box is a good size and very sturdy. It's made of cedar wood so there's no need to weatherproof it, but of you want to, there's no reason not to, just make sure that what you use is not too strongly perfumed. If you want to install a little camera to watch the birds nesting, this box is all ready to go, and the perspex window on the side is a good size and lets in plenty of light.I searched for a couple of days before deciding on which box to buy and I'm glad I chose this one. It wasn't cheap, but neither was is overly expensive. It was certainly worth the money paid for it as it's good quality and a cheaper version probably wouldn't withstand the wild British weather as well.

Good quality, attractive box that’s not expensive
Good price. Arrived promptly. Nice looking box. Didn’t take long to fit a camera and install in the garden. There is mention of the option of an extra light that can be fitted if necessary. I decide, after experimenting, that I would cut a similar light hole on the opposite wall of the box and cover it with semi-transparent plastic (milk bottle stuff seems just right) so I hope this will optimisé picture quality.
