Very good book
If you want a cozy reading experience this is the book for you. Very enjoyable story that takes you to the South of France in 1925 amount the rich society of the day. Lady Caroline is a delightful addition to the many ladies solving mysteries in print. Ms. Bassett has created delightful characters to go along with her imaginative stories.

Light fun
Lady Caroline is a delightful young woman who wants more out of life than marriage and children. So breaking with conventional norms of titled English aristocracy she becomes a secretary. Albeit it with her uncle, but it's still a job. Even better is knowing that it bothers her mother. During a night out at the casino she becomes involved in a murder. Light and fast moving the story rolls along. Delightful fun.

Enjoyable read
I really liked this book. It was well written and kept me engaged. I am reading several cozy mysteries right now set in the 1920s, but each of them have a unique take for their character.I look forward to the next book in the series.

an easy slide to death..or not
It was a pleasure to read about a quick thinking, observant young miss, however naive she may be. The culture of the day and the post WWI changing times underline the whole story.

Book 1 Murder at the Grand Hotel
Lady Caroline comes to work with her uncle as his secretary, which was more in line with checking out his hobby of exotic plants. While there she meets her late brothers friend, James and helps figure out the murder of two others at the hotel.

enjoyable read
Really enjoyed reading this book and loved the characters. The only downside is the American spellings and some American words used. I know she has an American mother but she is supposed to be an English Lady. That didn't ring quite right. Saying that I have just ordered the second one of the series.

a new series
It took me a few chapters to get into this book but I’m glad I persevered. Hopefully, we’ll get to know more about Lady Caroline in the next book. A promising start to a new series.

Easy reading
Nothing too taxing here. The story is more about Caroline and her lifestyle and the era in which she lives than it is about a murder. Good for a sunny summer afternoon's read.
