Yes, thats how it works. Simply replaces the plug cord version. The buds snap right on.

I have an iphone x which used bluetooth 5.0. will this bluetooth 4.0 cable work with the iphone x and my existing shure se535?

Yes. Bluetooth 5.0 is backwards compatibile. You wont get the full features that Bluetooth 5.0 offers like increase range, better battery life, and faster speed but I dont think it makes a big difference.

what is the length of the cable? If you run the cable behind your head does the mic still pick up your voice well?

If I run it behind my head the microphone falls just below my right ear I have had a few complaints that my voice sounds muffled. I am not sure if the mic is touching my neck or what the issue is. If I slide the clip closer to my right side it seem to loosen the tension on the right side of the cable and lets the mic swing forward a little and fixes the problem. Also clipping them to the front of my shirt and letting them hang down in front takes care of the issue too.
