best quality for the money
I love Derwent pencils, they know their products very well for the needs of various levels of advancement of artists anfd hobbyists. And this selection proves it, again. The graphic design of the tin cover is perfect for giving a gift to someone or treat yourself - and this is another set of pencils I bought from Derwent. I couldn't wait for it to arrive so I can try them out. These pencls encourage to explore new drawing techniques. Very happy again!

Excellent soft blendable artist quality pencils
Excellent quality charcoal pencils with a subtle amount of colour. The box contains 24 pencils: 20 colour tinted, 1 white, 3 grades of black. All are soft and blend well.Would love more colour range, especially flesh tones. Though all pencils can be overlaid/smudged/blended together.Having charcoal in pencil form is much less mess than raw charcoal - though both have their place. The charcoal content means they are not as slick/smooth across the page as eg LightFast range. Not quite as smooth as pencil pigments in binders such as oil, wax or gum.The slightly increased friction and a little shedding of pigment with friction on the page is to be expected from charcoal.Due to the mix of charcoal and darker pigments they should in theory all be light fast.Recommended.

Spot on
As with all Derwent products, these are exceptional. The subtle pigments are perfectly mixed and so easy to use. I find that holding the Pencils 90 degrees to the surface and exposing the full core gives amazing results. You can with a sensible pressure use them with a point just like a normal pencil, even though they are Charcoal based. I use these along with the Tainted XL Charcoal Blocks and love doing so.

Lovely set of charcoal pencils
Lovely set of charcoal pencils. Some of the colours are quite similar to each other, but they are fun to use and of good quality, as expected from Derwent. Great for sketching. Charcoal can be a bit messy but these pencils are nice to use since you can keep your fingers cleaner, unless of course you use your fingers to blend the charcoal on the paper, which I like to do!

Good selection of colours that give a vintage, nostalgic feel to your work
This is a quality selection of muted autumnal colours. The pencils are easy to use and they are real charcoal so you get all the effects you're used to but without the messy fingers. You can sand them to a point if you don't want to sharpen. I tend to use a knife to trim back the wood and then sandpaper the tip lightly. I don't know how much charcoal I'm saving but it's become a habit now.I made a mistake in ordering and left the default settings so got the pack of 12 - the pack of 24 is offered on the same page but you have to actively pick that button.

Pencils arrived in perfect condition and are as i expected
The colours are muted but that is what I was expecting there are no bright bold colours they are earthy colours but are a good range of colours and are very beautiful colours. I am very happy with the pencils. They are excellent quality and nice to use. They are not for bright carnivals unless you want a moody looking carnival but I would think they are great for painting nature in particular landscapes, anything with a sultry, moody atmosphere.

Great set of tinted charcoal pencils
Great set of tinted charcoal pencils. Derwent pencils are good value and never disappoint on quality. These are also water soluble so that adds another dimension to their use. So far I am really pleased with some of the results using these pencils. Looking forward to experimenting a bit more.

Broken
Unfortunately my packet had obviously been dropped or crushed, all the charcoal was broken inside so when I sharpened them they fell out. Unusable. Expensive.

Lápis de boa qualidade, mas as tonalidades poderiam ser mais variadas
Lápis macios, permite fundir bem os tons, mas nas cores escuras, que são maioria, quase não há diferenças significativas entre elas.

They are water soluble
Charcoal pencils of great quality and a lot cleaner to use than plain charcoal. Tinted and named with landscape drawing/painting in mind. Although not labeled as such, they are water soluble. Adding water gives a much richer (happier?) result. They can be great companions to Derwent Tinted Charcoal Pan Set.

Great Charcoal Pencils with a Splash of Colour.
These tinted/coloured charcoal pencils are excellent for those that work with this medium; allowing you to expand on your colour palette. Traditional charcoal is black, and there are other pigment options, such as Sanguine and White, but these pencils offer more colour options.Typically the lay down is scratchy but the blending is smooth. These are also nowhere near as messy as Vine charcoal, or the compressed charcoal sticks which are easier to control when applying over a broader space, but not when it comes to working in on those fine details; this is where these pencils reign supreme. The colours are lovely. Somewhat subtle but still add enough tone to enhance a monochromatic drawing. There are 21 different hues- beautiful earthy tones that are perfect for landscapes, and wildlife art, as well as the traditional Dark, Medium, Light. Use a whole array of colours on one piece, or just add a hint of colour to your traditional black and white; decisions, decisions. The choice is yours, and so far, I am loving these. For those unfamiliar with the medium, just note that these pencils do not lay down like coloured pencils (and are not really for colouring IMO), but the end results are just as rewarding. You can usually finish a picture quicker with this medium, just remember to fix it with a good fixative spray to avoid smudging (charcoal is notorious for smudges). Also note, the core is extremely fragile, so sharpening these may be a bit more challenging than traditional coloured pencils. Breakage of the core is not necessarily evidence of a bad product, it’s just that the medium itself is fragile, so care needs to be taken with these pencils. Be patient, be gentle with them, and always use a sharp pencil sharpener- I prefer the plastic ones over the steel sharpeners, or an X-acto/utility knife or a razor blade.Overall, a great product that gives you the option of adding some splash of colours to your usually monochromatic charcoal drawings. Having these options always make me, as an artist, happy. And I can’t recommend these enough to anyone who enjoys this medium, or who wants to expand to the challenging but "oh so worth it!" world of charcoal.
