Illegal Shinai, I train in a Dojo with several people in various national teams (although they live in London). I am new to the sport and purchased this from Amazon without thinking, and due to one positive review. However, upon comparing this to a legitimate shinai, there is a heck of a difference, and the shinai I now use wasn't more expensive at all. If this came at an exceptionally cheap price maybe the poor quality could be justified. The leather is the wrong material, the string to represent the blunt end is lax, and the four pieces of bamboo are spread far apart, rather than tight. All in all, a terrible product, which can't be used in competition, and would be great as a starting shinai, if it were exceptionally cheap, which it is not. Not suitable for sparring or competition, maybe okay for those just doing drills.

Really good, real deal came with a camo bag to carry the shinai with. Really good.
